When I interviewYang HongyanWhen she was a classmate, although she was still a junior majoring in English, she was already inw88 casinoI worked as a teaching assistant at the China Studies Center for one semester. Her main job is to tutor foreign students in the China Studies Center, helping them learn Chinese and understand China. It is understood that most of the teaching assistants in the China Studies Center are sophomore and junior Chinese students. Rather than getting a certain amount of remuneration by the hour, what they value more is the opportunity to improve their English communication skills.

There are many “ironic” examples of cultural shock
Yang Hongyan’s first student is Caitlin, who is from Seattle, USA and is also a junior student. Yang Hongyan tutors her for two hours every week, helping her check her homework, review courses, and talk about some topics about Chinese culture. Although Caitlin had studied Chinese for a year before coming to China, she still had difficulty reaching the level of daily communication. Explaining things about China to Caitlin in English often gives Yang Hongyan a headache. Once, when visiting the Forbidden City, Yang Hongyan racked her brains and couldn't figure out how to translate the terms "three palaces and six courtyards" and "harem" to her. Chinese idioms have profound cultural heritage and simple forms, but they are difficult to translate. For example, when explaining common idioms such as "everything strange", she often feels powerless and feels that she cannot translate the concise and exquisite flavor of Chinese idioms. While feeling deeply about the profoundness of the Chinese language and culture, she continues to learn and expand her knowledge, deepening her understanding of the Chinese language and Chinese culture.
Help each other, "good teachers and helpful friends" and true friendship
Short4Months, although Yang Hongyan and her friends only have one class a week, they communicate frequently on weekdays. Yang Hongyan often introduces Caitlin to Beijing's specialties, delicious food, and interesting places... Since Caitlin is very curious about some foods that often appear in textbooks, Yang Hongyan specially takes her to taste them, including steamed buns, dumplings, glutinous rice balls and other Chinese specialties. While working as a teaching assistant, she also received surprises and touches. Last year for Yang Hongyan's birthday, Caitlin specially asked her mother to bring a magnet with the word "Washington" printed on it from Washington, as well as some American snacks as a birthday gift to her.
Before Caitlin returned to China after her studies, the two of them specially asked classmates who were good at photography to take many group photos of them at w88 casino. The bright smiles in the photos reflect the true friendship. Yang Hongyan said that she initially applied for the job as a teaching assistant with a playful attitude, but gained a lot from participating in the work. She not only exercised her abilities, enhanced her motivation to learn, but also gained precious friendships. She said that she would continue to work as a teaching assistant at the China Studies Center.
