Harvard professor: Research on global income inequality should focus on two directions
China News Service Beijing5month29Nippon (Reporter Ma Haiyan) Income inequality is an eternal topic. In addition to the reasons for w88 and offshore production, the new w88 theory characterized by enterprise heterogeneity theory and intra-industry wage differences can also be used to explain wage differences. Elhenan, a global leader in international w88 and chair professor at Harvard University·Helpman pointed out two major research directions for future international w88.
International Society of Economics and Finance(China)The 6th Annual Meeting and2014International Academic Conference28Sunday29日在w88 casinoHold. Helpman gave a speech entitled "w88 and Inequality". Helpman used w88 theory to explain wage inequality. He believed that increased foreign w88 cannot fully explain global income inequality. From another direction, other methods may be used to explain the framework and research progress of wage inequality, and pointed out the direction of future research on this topic.
As income inequality in different industries within a country is increasing, and income inequality between different countries is also getting higher and higher, both in developed and developing countries, the wage premium caused by higher educational attainment is getting higher and higher. There are two traditional explanations. On the one hand, the difference comes from the gradual integration of developing countries into the world w88 system, and on the other hand, it comes from technological changes. But quantitatively speaking, w88 can only explain a small part of the wage premium. Foreign direct investment and offshore production can also partly explain wage inequality, but the remaining wage difference is still very large and is a major part of the rising wage inequality.
Helpman believes that there are two directions for this research. One direction is to use the new w88 theory characterized by the theory of enterprise heterogeneity and intra-industry wage differences to explain the residual wage difference; the other direction emphasizes the explanation of traditional influence channels and uses the complementarity of heterogeneous input factors, search and matching methods. Research in the first direction found that w88 affects wage inequality through various observable and unobservable channels, which can not only partially explain the remaining wage inequality, but also partially explain the wage inequality caused by the characteristics of the labor force itself.
The traditional w88 model has too simple structure and insufficient explanatory power for the rich types in the data sample. If the heterogeneity of enterprises and inputs is added, it can better explain the relationship between w88 and wage inequality. Helpman and his colleagues used the latest research this year to show the channel through which w88 affects the rising wage premium of university teachers: International economic integration allows scholars to share more knowledge and accelerates innovation. While the expansion of the think tank sector in each country increases wage inequality, technological improvements and government policies that lead to the expansion of the research sector have spillover effects in other countries, exacerbating wage inequality in other countries.
