Teaching economics is Shi Dan’s career and her passion. From the first time she came into contact with economics in college, she was completely immersed in economics. Its characteristics of being full of theory but not lacking in reality, and focusing on understanding and explanation more than anything else, were fascinating and fascinated her. Combined with the reality of China's socialist market economy construction that had just begun at that time, her desire to introduce (Western) economics with precise analytical logic and elucidation of market economy characteristics to more people became even stronger. So, with these emotions in mind, Shi Dan firmly joined the teaching team. In the past ten years, more than 5 courses have been offered each semester, and the teaching workload has reached more than 400 class hours per academic year. "Actually, I feel a sense of accomplishment after every class I teach, because another group of people understand and understand this knowledge." Shi Dan has used his own actions to stick to his original aspirations, and it has been 31 years. "Throughout the years of teaching, I didn't feel like I had to persevere very hard. I came through without knowing it," Shi Dan said with emotion, pure and full of power.

     

Innovation, guidance

French educator Rousseau once said: "The art of education is to make students like what you teach."Her classes have a simple and down-to-earth sense of art. She abandons the fragmented knowledge of "enchanting eyes" and imparts the essence to students in a complete and systematic manner, guiding students to easily master knowledge in the beauty of logic. When preparing lessons, she will teach the course materials that she is familiar with by heart many times in a "logical chain" to continuously improve her accuracy in grasping the logic of the course. In class, she uses the simplest sentences, skillfully combines abstract theories with common examples in reality, tells stories that shock students, and creates an environment for students to understand the principles of economics immersively. Collecting students’ feedback after class is what she values ​​most. "I especially welcome students to ask questions. Although this link may seem to take up the teacher's time, for me it is the best way to get feedback and improve the curriculum. Learning from each other's teaching is a teacher's greatest joy." Those questions with precise words are the most efficient way to obtain curriculum innovation for her. It is this kind of step-by-step patient guidance that enables each student to sort out the context clearly in his or her own way. Every student who has attended her class can gradually realize the value of studying economics. Everyone’s love and admiration for Shi Dan’s class is not groundless.

Enlightenment, guidance

For students, teachers are “guides”. "It is better to teach a child to fish than to teach him to fish." What she pays most attention to is cultivating students' understanding. "Understanding 'why' is more important than knowing 'what'. I am opposed to the stereotyped learning model: 'rote memorization,'" Shi Dan said. She further emphasized that when teachers organically combine courseware, blackboard writing and narration in class, students should find a balance between "listening, thinking, and recording". Too much emphasis on any one aspect may lead to one-sided understanding of knowledge and low productivity. Regarding the five realms of classroom teaching: silence, answer, dialogue, questioning, and argument, she believes that the students of the University of International w88 and Economics are very active in thinking, and they have the courage to question and challenge, and she is proud that the students of the University of w88 and Economics can achieve the fifth realm. At the same time, she hopes that every University of w88 and Economics student can use this advantage in the connection between economics and life, consciously think about real-life economic issues, improve their sensitivity to the use of economic models, and strengthen the connection between life phenomena and economic knowledge. Only in this way can they have a deeper understanding of the content of economics, master it, and benefit from economics courses in other professional courses.

Teaching by words and deeds, working tirelessly, diligently and with great achievements, Shi Dan expressed his enthusiasm in the Sanchi Lecture Hall and continued to write the story of his original intention of "teaching and educating people".
