[Editor’s Note]The Graduate Student Support Teaching Corps is a national demonstration project of the Youth Volunteer Poverty Alleviation Relay Plan jointly organized and implemented by the Youth League Central Committee and the Ministry of Education. Over the past year, they have been unswervingly committed, rooted in the grassroots, and used practical actions to write their own unique youth stories and passionate passion. In the process of fighting against the COVID-19 epidemic and helping to eradicate poverty, they were brave enough to take on responsibilities and were not afraid of difficulties. In a short period of time, they did one thing after another that they will never forget. Now, as their service period is about to expire, the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee and the Youth League Committee of the w88 casino jointly launched the "Stories of Supporting Teaching" column to share with everyone the unique youthful power of the students of the University of w88 and Economics.
Flashing memories - my story of teaching as a volunteer

In decades of life, there are countless memories, like a brilliant galaxy, gathering in my heart. For me, the most shining memory is the time I spent teaching in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province.
On August 20, 2019, the rainforest vegetation was lush and the tropical heat was still lingering. With an uneasy heart, I and three other partners from the teaching team came to Mengla County No. 1 Middle w88 casino and started a one-year teaching life.

"My name is Yang Shuying, and I am a member of the 21st graduate teaching group of the w88 casino. In the next semester, I will lead everyone to study Chinese in the first year of high w88 casino." This was the first sentence I said standing on the podium as a teacher for the first time. Once the words are spoken, the responsibility is already on the shoulders.
"How should I be a Chinese teacher, and how should I be a good teacher?" I have often thought about this question for a year. On the eve of the start of w88 casino, this question came to mind again and again.
How to be a Chinese teacher? ——My teaching experience
Through exchanges with other senior teachers, I know that the foundation of students here is very weak, so it is particularly important to improve the foundation of students and improve their ability to take exams. The subject of Chinese also carries the mission of inheriting Chinese culture and promoting core socialist values. Therefore, I hope that my classroom can not only teach students how to take exams, but also have good humanistic care. It is extremely difficult for a novice teacher to balance the two.

In order to improve students’ foundation and teach students to answer questions, I tried my best. First, turn yourself back into a high w88 casino student and use learning methods such as knowledge transfer that you mastered back then to simplify your knowledge. I also continue to improve my teaching model: from impartial teaching to group task-based teaching, allowing students to be "little teachers" to evaluate lectures between groups.
But I soon discovered that due to students’ laziness and lack of self-control, it was extremely difficult to advance teaching tasks and increase their enthusiasm for listening to lectures. So I began to try to learn from various incentive mechanisms, such as holding regular dictation competitions every week and "prize-winning quizzes" in class. Students were graded in groups, and the groups with high scores were given appropriate assignment burden reductions. In addition, there must be individual coercive measures, such as using the ten minutes before class to memorize, and then using the evening self-study time to carry out one-on-one recitation in accordance with the students' aptitude - different recitation tasks are set according to the situation of different students, and each student must ask me to endorse and complete the task. All students have to memorize it all, which often lasts from 7:40 to 11 o'clock in the evening. After one night of supervision, I often suffered from back pain, dizziness and tinnitus. I joked with the students and said that this method would simply "injure the enemy a hundred times and injure oneself eight thousand".

In order to better explain the humanistic care in Chinese, when preparing lessons, I accumulated as much background knowledge involved in the text as possible, so that I could be as fluent as possible in classroom teaching, so as to convey the power of literature through myself and touch people's hearts. When I talked about "Jing Ke Assassins the King of Qin", we explored the meaning of "hero" together; when I talked about Qu Yuan's innocent heart that was willing to give up his life for the motherland, and Du Fu's lament about the fate of the country when he was old and ill, the whole class was solemn; when the singing version of "Pi" was played During the performance of "Pipa", the girls sang in harmony, their songs were plaintive, as if they were the pipa girl with a miserable life experience; when talking about the main theme of "Jinse", some students actually put forward an interpretation that was different from the existing views with reason, and the whole class burst into applause.

The interest in class and the supervision and practice after class have finally yielded initial results. In the final exam, one of my students won the first place in the Chinese language subject; the names of three students appeared in the top five list of the grade, and students who originally scored more than 50 points in the Chinese language test entered the fast class. There will always be some reward for hard work, and it is my persistence not to give up on every student.
How to be a good teacher? ——Impressions of getting along with students
A year has passed by so quickly. When I was leaving, I thought I was ready to say goodbye, but I never imagined that I would still cry with you with tears streaming down my face and reluctant to leave.

Every time I study in the evening, there are always three to five students around me, listening to me talk about my life and telling me their troubles. I particularly remember one time when I was doing self-study, I saw a girl crying secretly, so I went to talk to her after the self-study. What I didn't expect was that the little girl's outpouring of thoughts was so heartbreaking that it made me and the English teacher who came to teach there burst into tears together. The girl said that no one had heard her talk about these changes for a long time.

I remember when we first arrived at the w88 casino, the w88 casino leaders told us that the situation of the students here was relatively complicated, and they encountered many troubles and difficulties in the process of growing up. As a teacher, I must work hard to protect your souls. I remember my class monitor told me after he expressed his grievances for handling class affairs: "Teacher, you are my lighthouse in the vast sea." I remember after talking to a girl about how to get along with friends, she said, "Teacher, I am so lucky to meet you"... In the days I live with you, I feel more and more that although your learning foundation is weak, your ability to live is much stronger than mine as a teacher: I remember every girl’s superior cooking skills when cooking at my house, every boy’s skillful way of making rice dumplings, and every student’s diligence in cleaning. In life, you have become my teachers. I also remember the candies and mangoes that the girls secretly stuffed into me on Children’s Day, and the beautiful paintings my classmates gave me when I said goodbye. I also remember hooking up with you and promising that I will come back again in the future.

One year is too short. When I left the podium, I felt that everything passed by like a dream; one year is long, every detail is vivid in my mind, and there are too many memories worth cherishing.
In this year, I gained a lot: I gained the precious teacher-student relationship with the students, gained the friendship with the local teachers, gained the sense of belonging given to me by Mengla, my second hometown, and gained the continuous care for us from the service w88 casino, the Youth League County Committee, and my alma mater.
In this year, I only hope that I can be a small beacon on your short journey in life, leaving a corner of light in the corner of your growing soul.
