Moved and harvested from the Paralympic Overture
Volleyball Volunteer Song Shuang
After going through the volleyball test match in April, I was waiting for the Olympic Games with infinite longing; after experiencing the fiery Olympic volleyball match in August, my unforgettable life was full of laughter and sweat. However, my heart calmed down and I welcomed the Paralympic sitting volleyball match confidently and calmly, because I knew that I would gain more from these days of volunteer life.
Since the test match, our position has been "athlete service" - responsible for all activities of the sports team in the venue. Regarding the Paralympic Games in front of me, my friends were worried about whether I could serve disabled athletes well. I confidently patted my chest - no problem! Having served athletes from so many countries, our rich experience has made us “experts” in this field. However, on the first day when the Paralympic team came to the China Agricultural University Gymnasium for pre-match training, I realized that I was wrong.
The first team I came into contact with at the Paralympic Games was the Chinese women’s team. Looking at the girls’ young and beautiful faces and incomplete lower limbs, I felt a little overwhelmed inside. I admit that my emotions at that time were complicated. They were similar in age to us, but they did not have the same complete bodies as ours. Their empty trouser legs and cold prosthetic limbs were with them throughout their lives. For the first time, I understood so deeply how cruel the word "destiny" is. For these athletes, I must provide excellent services like the Olympic Games, no, better than the Olympic Games. I think they need us more. But this time, I was wrong again, because they were so optimistic.
From the moment they picked up the team and got off the bus, bright smiles have been hanging on the faces of the "girls in the rows". When they see us volunteers, they will take the initiative to greet us. When we stepped forward to help push the wheelchair, their courtesy made us feel the joy of helping others. During on-field training, the team members got out of their wheelchairs and jumped onto the field to sit down. Compared with the Olympic volleyball court, the sitting volleyball court is much smaller and the net is much lower, but it is onlyOne meterThe nets on the left and right are already a very high obstacle for Paralympic athletes. The intensity of the sitting volleyball game is no less than that of the volleyball game. It is hard to imagine how much they have devoted to this sport.
Our work is still the same as the original procedure, but the workload has obviously increased, because for them, we have to be more thoughtful and detailed. Sometimes our companions will be too busy to eat, and other students who have just been sent off to the next team will rush to help. Even so, we won’t feel tired because these athletes are so cute. We like their bright smiles, their confident playing skills, and their optimistic outlook on everything around them... In fact, all of this comes from being moved!
When an unfair fate meets an optimistic life, life is the strong one. I am calmer now, maybe because I have learned something from those optimistic and strong lives, maybe because I am moved by the feeling I got from accompanying the Paralympic team for the first time. Now every time when we get off work, what everyone gathers around to talk about is no longer how exciting the game was or how handsome the team members are, but "Today I helped an Egyptian athlete push his wheelchair. Although he didn't speak English, he turned around and held my hand to express his gratitude." My companions all said that it was really worthwhile to serve these athletes, and the few days they were in contact with them even changed the world in their own eyes.
Our LordTubeThe teacher summed it up: There is a type of people in the world who are strong, optimistic, and sunny, and they are Paralympic athletes; there is also a type of people in the world who are kind, caring, and extremely responsible, and they are Paralympic volunteers. I am really glad to be a member of this team and experience the Beijing Paralympics first-hand. I believe that this experience will be my lifelong treasure!
