Volunteer service and interest

During these days at the International Broadcast Center, journalists from all over the world left a deep impression on us. We heard various spoken languages mixed with southern and northern accents, were exposed to the folk customs of different countries, and learned many greetings in many languages sentence by sentence. The cheerful and talkative Americans, the humble and courteous Japanese, the unrestrained and humorous Mexicans and Brazilians, the restrained and reserved Germans... In communicating with them, we experienced the true cultural diversity.

It is said that exchanging commemorative medals is a tradition of previous Olympic Games. In order to promote their own brand culture, delegations from various countries, various media, and various sponsoring companies will bring their own commemorative medals to exchange with others. After such an Olympic Games, everyone will get to know many friends through mutual exchanges, and will also receive various commemorative medals.

Fortunately, we work in a place with the largest flow of media reporters, and of course we have the opportunity to participate in the medal exchange. My first medal was from a man namedJason's catering manager is there. I still remember how embarrassed I was when I asked:“Excuse me. Do you have any extra pins to give away?”I still thought about it for a long time after asking, wondering if such an abrupt request would be rejected. FortunatelyJasonHe generously took out a bag of medals and distributed them to everyone, and patiently introduced the meaning of each medal to us. Among them is a small and unique golden medal, printed with"Tallahassee", that isJason's hometown.

From then on, we boldly tried to exchange medals while chatting with customers, or exchanged the few we had. Most customers will be friendly enough to exchange with us or give them directly as gifts. Up to now, we have pinned a lot of badges of various countries, large and small, on our chests: YesNBC(USA),NHK(Japan),AED(Germany) and other well-known media, there are kangaroos, maple leaves, etc. that represent the characteristics of various countries, as well as articles about the Olympics and Beijing culture... These unexpected gains made our Olympic volunteer trip more meaningful.

Our volunteer service is still going on, and there are endless more interesting experiences happening around us every day. I wish Beijing well and wish our volunteers more unforgettable memories.

Certificate activation About to go to war

Gong Meiruo

After the expedition ceremony, I couldn't wait for the upcoming volunteer expedition. I couldn't wait to get my own documents and clothes immediately and start our volunteer work. But time was as slow as a snail, going against my eagerness. I was still drowsy in the morning, but when I heard a call from the teacher asking me to help apply for certificates, I immediately woke up and suppressed my long-awaited excitement to participate in the work.

Before the certificates were activated, the teacher led our volunteers to sort out their ID cards and volunteer cards. Although this process is tedious and long, when we embarked on the "journey" to activate our certificates, our fatigue immediately dissipated. It was obviously a familiar drive, but I still looked out the window like a child. The scenery outside the window seemed to become fresh and energetic.

Before the certificates were actually activated, each of us applied for temporary certificates because we had to enter the Olympic area, which put my eagerness to the test again. Afterwards, we carried the heavy box into the ID Activation Center. The activation center is two temporary tents, simple but not crude, filled with the atmosphere of the Olympics, with various auspicious cloud banners covering the roof. The smaller tent is the waiting room, and the larger tent houses nine badge activation machines. A volunteer with a smile on his face led us into the activation room and helped us hand our certificates to the staff. The staff worked meticulously and happily, as if this was not only their job, but also an enjoyable process. After each activation, the staff patiently reminded us to check the number. The guidance from the activation center also delivers water to the staff from time to time and answers any questions they encounter at work. Although we did not participate in the work, we also had free ice mineral water to drink. Watching them working hard, I thought about the volunteer work I would soon carry out. I felt a heavy responsibility and pressure, but I was confident that I would become a qualified volunteer. After the certificates were activated, they did not forget to remind us to keep the certificates and belts that are crucial to volunteers.

Today’s activation trip taught me:

Smile, so as to show the youth and vitality of our college student volunteers;

Be serious, so as to ensure the quality of our work;

Be confident so that you can show your best face;

We must persevere so that we can fulfill our mission.
