With ideals, clear pursuits, and understanding of the basic characteristics and laws of real society, we must take practical actions. Knowledge and action must be highly coordinated. Communists living in the era of market economy must, on the one hand, recognize the role of market laws, and on the other hand, promote their ideals and beliefs. At this time, they must make a choice: how to adhere to their own outlook on life, values, and ethics under market economy conditions. Respecting the laws of the market means obtaining benefits through production and exchange, but it must be clear who the benefits are fundamentally for. In the market process, you can be a private boss or a wage earner for capitalists. However, Communist Party members must clearly realize that today's profit-making is ultimately to improve everyone's lives and to ensure public welfare. Your behavior is not only restricted by the law, but also guided by ideals and beliefs. You can still make the necessary sacrifices when the people need it. Otherwise, who else will believe that you are more advanced than others and can better represent the interests of the people?
 
In the new era of my country’s reform, opening up, and modernization, the advanced nature of Communist Party members is reflected in the “Three Represents”: representing the development requirements of China’s advanced productive forces, representing the direction of China’s advanced culture, and representing the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people. Representing the most advanced productive forces, this requires Communists to have the ability to scientifically understand the world and effectively transform the world, and to be able to lead the people to create the best human society and the best life. Representing the direction of progress of advanced culture, we must have both scientific understanding and communist ideals and beliefs, and the charisma that can guide mankind toward a happy future. Representing the fundamental interests of the people means representing the long-term interests of the people. As the ruling party, if it cannot represent the interests of the people, it will stand on the opposite side of the people; if it cannot represent the fundamental interests and long-term interests of the people, it may be timid, look left and right, and be unable to make correct judgments and choices.
