First, freedom. If I were to say the most striking feature of the University, then I would definitely say it is freedom. This is also what I like most about the University. Starting from the summer vacation of my sophomore year, I really fell in love with learning. For more than ten years before this, I had been in a state of passive learning: I didn’t think the knowledge I learned was meaningful. It was just because I had to take the exam and other students were studying, so there was nothing wrong with my learning. But now, I truly understand the saying “Learn and practice, it’s more important than words” and start to practice it. The changes in my inner thoughts have been huge. In my junior year, I studied the Bitcoin options market with Professor Deng Jun, which strengthened my determination to pursue an academic path in the future. At first, when reading relevant literature, I felt that every sentence in the paper was obscure and difficult to understand. Later, with the in-depth discussion with the teacher and the in-depth reading of the literature, I gradually understood the meaning of every hypothesis, every regression, and every cited document in the paper, and began to conduct my own research. At this time, scientific research began to show its unique charm to me. I felt that the words, charts and formulas in the paper seemed to have come to life, conveying the author's findings and thinking to me. Of course, I also encountered many problems when I was conducting scientific research. Among them, the relatively easy ones were technical problems, such as data cleaning and descriptive statistics. Although I might be stuck due to an error report, it would take half a day, or at most two or three days, to solve it. The real difficulty is the direction issue: how to organize the content of the entire paper, how to design robustness checks, and how to respond to reviewers’ comments……I was at a loss to solve these problems. The teachers gave me great help and made me realize the shortcomings of my previous professional courses: I only exercised my ability to solve problems, but neglected to understand the economic meaning behind them.
