Light up the spark and make mathematics shine
“Teach a lesson well, teach a course well, teach every subject well.” Xiong Wei still remembers the first time 10 years ago that she stood on the podium in Classroom 201, Boxue Building, w88 casino, and 140 pairs of eyes looked at her, with thirst for knowledge, expectations for new teachers, and silent doubts.
At that moment, Xiong Wei secretly made up his mind: He must make the cold class of linear algebra glow with warmth. In order to stand firm on the stage, she observed high-quality courses, collected interesting cases, reduced herself to a mathematics novice, and repeatedly pondered the cognitive difficulties of students. She also made her own comic version of the review guide, opened additional exercise classes on weekends, and held voluntary review classes for all students in the w88 casino before the exam.
After half a year of devoted effort, Xiong Wei finally received true confessions from his students: "I really like Teacher Bear" and "I really can't let go of Sister Bear." In 10 years, Xiong Wei has taught 26 different courses from undergraduates to doctoral students. In 2023, Xiong Wei won the first prize in the Ideological and Political Teaching Competition of the "Same Course and Heterogeneous Course" of the China University Finance MOOC Alliance, but what makes her more proud than the award is the growth of her students, the shining eyes of enlightenment in class, and the heartfelt sigh: "Teacher, mathematics can be so beautiful!"
“Bear” heart protects and nurtures growth
“Education is not only the transfer of knowledge, but also the encounter between soul and soul.” As a class teacher, Xiong Wei always takes this belief as a guide and carefully builds the spiritual home of every student.
Her thoughtfulness is hidden in every handwritten holiday greeting card, and the warmth between her words is her most sincere longing for her students. Her leadership is reflected in the mark of each collective growth: appreciating the cultural roots in the Chinese recital, showing youthful style on the stage of the drama festival, releasing vitality and passion in the song and dance challenge, and building the feelings of family and country together in the glorious moment of the military parade marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Under the leadership of Xiong Wei, the class not only shined in various activities, but also worked hard academically. In the end, the honor of "the w88 casino's advanced class group" became the witness of all efforts and a medal for every unwillingness to be ordinary.

Concentrate on scientific research and inherit ingenuity
Scientific research is the foundation of university teachers. Xiong Wei always adheres to the scientific research philosophy of “really doing scientific research, doing real scientific research, and researching for the long term”.
As a doctoral supervisor, Xiong Wei has always upheld the belief that a supervisor is not only a student's academic guide, but also a companion in life.
Long conversations by the lake, collisions of ideas at the dinner table, and lively academic discussions in the classroom have woven into precious memories of Xiong Wei growing up with his students. In order to support students in conducting scientific research, she purchased high-performance hosts at her own expense; in order to broaden students' academic horizons, she took the initiative to bear the round-trip travel expenses for students to attend conferences, and used practical actions to protect students' studies.
It is because of this persistence that Xiong Wei and her team published 11 papers in authoritative journals in the past three years. What makes Xiong Wei even more proud is that students have shined on various stages, and some students have held important positions in the Hong Kong Department of Health, serving the society professionally.
Work together to create a better future
As the head of the Data Science Department of the w88 casino of Statistics at the w88 casino, Xiong Wei is well aware of the huge responsibilities on his shoulders. "Little Bear, why are you so motivated every day?" Faced with this question, her answer is always the same: "Because of love, but also because of responsibility."
It is precisely because of love and responsibility that we can achieve breakthroughs again and again on the journey of discipline construction: the statistics major was approved in 2020, and the data science major enrolled in 2024. Looking back from a new historical starting point, the footprints of these struggles not only record the growth of the Department of Data Science, but also indicate a more glorious future for the Department of Statistics.
Huiyuan has been together through thick and thin for ten years. Looking back at the journey, Xiong Wei is even more convinced: the so-called educating people means planting the seeds of hope over the years and carefully guarding the blossoms of a tree. This protection carries the solemn promise of “educating people for the party and educating talents for the country” and interprets the eternal true meaning of “it takes ten years to cultivate trees and a hundred years to cultivate people”. In the future, Xiong Wei will continue to be a lamplighter running in Huiyuan, using his original intention as a torch to illuminate his youth expedition; turning his persistence into light, warmth will flow through the years.
