I was very lucky to be among the first batch of teachers in the financial engineering department. At that time, teacher Liu Lixin entered the Department of Financial Engineering at the same time as me. The period when Dao Gao was a teacher and devoted himself to improving teachers’ ethics
The first department head is Teacher Guo Min. Teacher Guo has rich experience in talent training and teaching. I learned from Teacher Guo how to teach classes well and how to communicate with students. I also slowly evolved from the role of a student to a qualified teacher. At that time, all the courses offered by the Department of Financial Engineering were new. Teacher Guo Min and I worked together to develop "Financial Economics", and I worked on "Financial Engineering" with the second department heads, Teacher Liu Lixin and Teacher Feng Jianfen. In view of the characteristics of w88 casino's financial engineering major students who have received good mathematical training in the first and second years of college, we try to organically combine financial theories and mathematical models in lectures. We not only emphasize to students that they need to "know what it is", but also require "know why it is so". At the same time, through examples and experimental teaching methods, the financial meaning and application methods behind boring mathematical models are clarified. After years of construction, these two courses have always been considered by students to be weighty and in-depth courses, and the evaluation of classroom teaching quality has always been among the best in the college.
While concentrating on teaching, because at the beginning of the establishment of the Department of Financial Engineering, everything needed to be started from scratch. We needed to complete a lot of talent training and professional construction work. Under the leadership of teachers Guo Min and Liu Lixin, I completed the financial engineering with my colleagues. With the formulation of the training plan, the financial engineering major was approved as a Beijing and national-level specialty major from 2008 to 2009. The talent training model of financial engineering also won the second prize of the Beijing Teaching Achievement Award in 2013, laying a solid foundation for the financial engineering major to become a national first-class major.
Grown through tempering, taking over the baton for the voyage of financial engineering
In 2012, I was appointed as the third dean of the Department of Financial Engineering. I took over the baton from Teacher Guo and Teacher Liu, and also took over the mission of making the financial engineering major stronger and bigger. Who would have thought that this would last nearly ten years. Teacher Guo established the financial engineering major, and Teacher Liu erected the brand of financial engineering. The next step is how to make the brand of financial engineering louder and make our voice known to brother universities and colleagues in society.
After I became the head of the department, I found that the teachers in the department were generally young and very motivated. We often discuss work and exchange scientific research together, and the atmosphere is very harmonious. 2013 coincides with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of our department. After discussion, we plan to hold a department celebration event. In order to cooperate with the department celebration activities, we held 10 consecutive industry forums, inviting experts from academia and industry to participate, which were widely praised by alumni, industry and academia.
After gaining experience in organizing conferences, my colleagues and I began to boldly organize and participate in national academic conferences to enhance the reputation of w88 casino’s financial engineering major. In 2016, the Department of Financial Engineering hosted the 15th "China Financial Engineering Annual Conference and Financial Innovation and Risk Management (International) Forum", which was the first time that a financial engineering annual conference was jointly organized by universities in the central and western regions, with the highest number of participants in history. In the same year, it organized the first national quantitative investment strategy design competition "Pinjin Cup", attracting nearly 800 students from universities across the country. In August 2017, the “Special Seminar on Quantitative Finance Professional Training Program” was organized. In March 2019, he presided over the OBE professional evaluation of the Department of Financial Engineering and was rated as excellent. In 2020, the 18th National Financial Systems Engineering Annual Conference was successfully held. These activities have greatly improved the reputation and influence of the financial engineering major and laid a solid foundation for being selected as a national first-class major.
Pioneering and innovative, always injecting fresh blood into the training of financial engineering talents
In terms of talent training and professional construction, my colleagues and I discuss training plans every year, eliminate unqualified courses, and introduce new courses. Because the financial field is developing very fast, we need to keep up with the requirements of the times in terms of talent training. In 2010, the financial engineering major launched a financial risk management direction; in 2016, it opened a quantitative finance experimental class; in 2017, it comprehensively promoted the integration of industry and education, reached practice base construction or strategic cooperation with more than 10 companies, and successively opened 4 practical courses in the industry; in 2018, it promoted virtual simulation gold courses and financial technology pilots; in 2019, it organized applications for master's and doctoral programs in financial engineering, forming a new integrated talent training system for undergraduates, masters, and doctoral students. I also actively promote the teaching reform of the department, and comprehensively promote the construction of offline golden courses, online and offline mixed golden courses, and virtual simulation golden courses from 2020 to 2021, and always ensure that the training of financial engineering talents ranks at the forefront of domestic institutions. In response to the rapid development of derivatives in our country, I contacted the industry to develop the first options market-making platform for domestic universities. Since 2020, I have held two consecutive national options market-making competitions to push professional influence and social services of universities to more cutting-edge industry application fields. In 2019, financial engineering was approved as a national first-class major.
Both teachers and friends, we learn from each other
In terms of educating people, I have always believed that students are my friends and hope to treat them as equals. Because the ability and way of receiving information among contemporary college students are generally much better than mine, I often learn a lot from them. I think the saying "teaching makes each other mutually beneficial" is very true. Discussions with students can always make us all gain something. Although I have persisted in working despite being physically ill, everyone who is a teacher has had similar experiences. Being a teacher means giving, it is a conscientious job. If you only consider your own gains and losses, you are not suitable as a teacher. During the epidemic, my students and I donated 1,000 masks to the college, taking into account the college’s epidemic prevention needs. The college is like our home. Only when our home is built will we feel comfortable living in it.
Currently, our country has entered a new stage of development, and the long-term goal in 2035 is to basically realize socialist modernization. As a college teacher, in order to achieve this goal as soon as possible, my colleagues and I will continue to work hard and work tirelessly to cultivate outstanding financial talents for our country.
