UIBE Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds successfully held a symposium for Chinese teachers

First, Dr. Claire initiated a discussion on the functions and beliefs of Chinese teachers. Teachers express their opinions and speak freely. Dr. Claire specifically mentioned that teachers should understand the characteristics of students, use different teaching methods when dealing with adults, college students, and primary and secondary w88 casino students, and emphasize the adaptability of explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge to local conditions. The teacher's responsibility is to discover the connection points between new knowledge and old knowledge, and connect it with students' interests and lives to form meaningful teaching to improve students' enthusiasm and long-term memory. Teachers at the Confucius Institute unanimously agree on the importance of Chinese character teaching. Dr. Clare pointed out that Chinese character writing and spoken communication are independent but related to each other. In the first stage, teachers need to focus on teaching some simple Chinese characters and radicals, and teach them separately from spoken language; in the second stage, Chinese characters and communication are combined in the teaching.

Finally, Dr. Claire emphasizes“It is better to teach a man to fish than to teach him to fish”, which advocates sharing learning tools and techniques with students to improve their self-learning ability and cultivate them to be lifelong learners of Chinese.

This symposium added a good atmosphere of communication and mutual learning to the Confucius Institute and improved the teaching level of teachers at the Confucius Institute. Teachers took this opportunity to share their teaching experiences and insights, and exchange different teaching methods and concepts.“There is no fixed method for teaching, the most important thing is to obtain the method.” This exchange will help inspire the outstanding performance of the Confucius Institute teachers in the new round of teaching.
