As the most influential student competition in the field of international investment law, FDI MOOT is hosted by the Center for International Legal Studies (CILS) in Austria. It has now taken root in Shenzhen, attracting 29 competition teams from 24 universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, and Nanjing University. It was reviewed by 34 experts and scholars in the field of investment arbitration from 8 countries and regions.

As the first Chinese regional competition of FDI MOOT, this competition follows the title of this year’s global competition. The controversy involved originated from the fact that the host country Laoc implemented the environmental protection requirements of the regional international organization ASNEC by amending its domestic laws and phasing out domestic coal-fired power plants within a time limit. This resulted in a serious devaluation of the enterprises invested by the foreign company MFNB in ​​Laoc, so it transferred all rights and litigation rights under the financing agreement to another foreign company GNB, who initiated investment arbitration against Laoc. This case not only involves common issues of fair and equitable treatment in international investment arbitration, but also includes cutting-edge hot disputes such as the impartiality of arbitrators, the transfer of treaty claims, and the attribution of international organizations, which poses great professional and technical difficulties.

Under the organization and coordination of the club, all competing teams actively provided assistance to this year’s w88 law team. Wang Ziwen, a student coach of the JESSUP team, and Xu Qun, a student coach of the ELSA team, gave careful guidance and a lot of help in professional polishing and court defense training. Veteran players such as Zhou Xiaoyu and Deng Kaiqi of the JESSUP team, Ren Xiaohan and Xu Kuan of the ELSA team, and Liu Ben of the VIS team all provided a lot of assistance and valuable advice for this competition preparation training.
