Chinese scholars stated in an open letter that recently, we have heard many voices politicizing and stigmatizing the COVID-19 epidemic. We believe that this will not help China, the United States and the world jointly contain the spread of the largest infectious disease epidemic in decades, it will not help the healthy development of Sino-US relations, and it will not help the well-being of the people of China and the United States and people around the world. We are willing to sincerely share our views with our American friends.
The following is the full text of the open letter:
An open letter from hundreds of Chinese scholars to people from all walks of life in the United States
Dear American colleagues and friends:
We are 100 Chinese scholars in the fields of philosophy, political science, medicine, economics, international relations, sociology, law, communication, military science, science and technology, including many university professors from Wuhan. We focus on majors in various fields, but as intellectuals, we have the responsibility to express our views on issues related to the well-being of the people of China and the United States and all mankind.
Recently, we have heard many voices politicizing and stigmatizing the COVID-19 epidemic.
The new coronavirus is one of the most serious global public health crises. The fight against the COVID-19 epidemic is a long and arduous global protracted war. Countries should unite and cooperate instead of complaining, shifting blame, and blaming each other. Viruses have no borders, and neither does love. As the two major countries in the world, China and the United States should use cooperation to influence the world. In the joint fight against the epidemic, we should respect science and cherish life to protect people of all countries from greater harm.
The current epidemic in China has basically been brought under control. In the two months since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Chinese people have supported each other, worked together, and achieved hard-won results. We are grateful for the support and help provided by the international community, including all walks of life in the United States, during the fight against the epidemic. We are also willing to share our anti-epidemic experience with other countries and provide other countries with the help we can.
In this unprecedented new coronavirus epidemic, it is still unclear where the virus originated. We respect scientific and professional opinions. No matter where the virus originated, China, like other countries affected by the epidemic, is a victim of the virus and is willing to work with people of all countries to prevent the continued spread of the epidemic.
We sincerely look forward to sincere cooperation with the international community, including the United States. Look forward to international cooperation flourishing around the world again. We call on all countries to unite, cooperate sincerely, and make every effort to deal with the common enemy of human health.
May we jointly win the final victory in the fight against the new coronavirus epidemic as soon as possible!
