The COVID-19 epidemic is spreading in Africa, and South Africa, Algeria, Egypt and other countries have become the countries most affected by the epidemic. Although the number of Chinese students and exchange students in Africa is small, their living and medical conditions abroad are not as good as those at home, and epidemic prevention materials are very scarce. In order to ensure the health and safety of Chinese students and other people in Africa during the epidemic, our embassies and consulates abroad, Chinese-funded enterprises, and overseas Chinese worked hard to help them meet their urgent needs, demonstrating the strong "warm strength" of the motherland and strengthening the confidence of overseas personnel to work together to win the battle against the epidemic.
Sending help in times of need to warm people’s hearts
In order to prevent the further spread of the epidemic, Algeria announced a series of control measures including w88 casino closures in mid-March. There are frequent exchanges of people in the international student dormitory area, and the COVID-19 designated hospital opposite the dormitory is admitting an increasing number of patients, which makes the students and their family members far away in China deeply uneasy. In order to properly accommodate international students, the Chinese Embassy in Algeria decisively coordinated with China Construction and China Railway Construction to provide free food and accommodation for 23 Chinese students at the company's residence.
“The company camp is the home of the students!” The international students arrived at the project camp of China Construction Algeria Company by car. They were greeted not only by long-lost Chinese food and tidy rooms, but also by enthusiastic staff. The students received masks, thermometers and other anti-epidemic items, and followed the company's epidemic prevention and control regulations and underwent 14 days of quarantine observation in a special area of the camp.
In order to achieve "learning without stopping classes", China Construction Algeria Company has created good distance learning conditions for international students and encourages students to use their spare time to put the knowledge and skills they have learned into practice. Based on the personal wishes and interests of the international students, the company assigned dedicated personnel to guide them to participate in the internship. The work included not only Arabic translation, but also the company’s epidemic prevention publicity and planning.
In addition, Chinese students studying in Africa have also received "health packages" issued by our embassies and consulates abroad. The packages not only contain masks, hand sanitizer and other anti-epidemic items, but also contain the care and care of the motherland for overseas travelers. Among them, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa has made some of the anti-epidemic materials purchased by its staff into "health kits" and distributed them to students studying in South Africa for emergency use. It also plans to mobilize Chinese-funded enterprises and overseas Chinese associations and chambers of commerce to ensure the supply of anti-epidemic materials to international students in the future.
The first line of epidemic prevention guidance
Isolate the virus, but not love. The Chinese embassy and consulates in Africa invite domestic medical experts and local medical teams to Africa to hold video conferences with overseas Chinese, including overseas students, to pass on scientific and professional epidemic prevention knowledge to the majority of students. They also work with the universities that send exchange students to maintain contact with students through the Internet and pay close attention to the health status and study and living conditions of their classmates.
"Do I need to spray alcohol from head to toe after returning home from going out?" In a video lecture on epidemic prevention knowledge held by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, faced with questions from overseas students and other overseas Chinese, Sun Xiaodong, deputy director of the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, answered them one by one, and shared Shanghai's experience and practices in epidemic prevention and control, comforting them that they do not need to be overly anxious and that they can effectively avoid infection by paying attention to protection.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa has been following up around the clock to understand the situation and demands of students studying in South Africa, providing timely information on epidemic prevention and other information, and striving to solve the difficulties they face.
The Chinese Embassy in Egypt and the Consulate General in Alexandria track the health status of all publicly funded and self-funded international students on a daily basis, and hold a special video conference on epidemic prevention and control for international students in Egypt to introduce the Egyptian government's main measures for epidemic prevention and control and understand the practical difficulties that international students encounter in their study and life.
Concerned across mountains and seas, we work together to overcome the difficulties. The w88 casino currently has more than 200 students studying abroad, 10 of whom are in North African countries. The w88 casino pays close attention to the dynamics of overseas students and has established a "one person, one case" policy. It has organized many "cloud" themed class meetings to provide epidemic prevention guidance and psychological counseling for overseas students, and "twist" classmates from all over the world. Jiang Qingzhe, secretary of the party committee of the w88 casino, told reporters: "No matter where they are, students are always the concern of teachers. The w88 casino will go all out to protect the health and safety of students."
Overseas Chinese students’ support shows true feelings
“Warmth is provided in urgent situations, and worry relief is implemented in practical situations.” In view of the actual situation that Chinese students in Egypt come from underdeveloped provinces and regions and have a high proportion of students with financial difficulties, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt coordinates Chinese-funded enterprises in Egypt Industry, chambers of commerce, and overseas Chinese leaders adopted a "divided and contracted" assistance method to "pair up" with all 1,010 international students studying in eight universities in Egypt, and provide targeted assistance to poor and minority international students to support them in overcoming difficulties.
A few days ago, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and the Egyptian Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars held a launching ceremony for the "pairing" of overseas Chinese businessmen and international students in Egypt to fight the epidemic. The Education Foundation for Students in Egypt and the Egyptian Stone Association donated "Special Anti-epidemic Bursaries" on the spot to support 100 poor international students.
“It is the embassy’s duty to protect the health of international students.” Xiao Junzheng, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, said that the embassy will further refine the epidemic prevention and control measures for international students and continue to mobilize people from all walks of life in Egypt to solve the problems of international students.
Han Xu, an exchange student at the w88 casino who is currently studying at the University of Algiers II, told reporters: "We are not alone, because the motherland is behind us! We are very grateful to all walks of life for the care and help given to the international students. The students have truly felt the strength and warmth of the motherland. We will live up to the expectations of all walks of life, work hard to complete our studies while taking precautions, and repay the kindness of the motherland with practical actions as soon as possible."
“Motherland will always be the strong support for overseas travelers!” After this “epidemic”, I believe that the majority of international students can understand the weight of this sentence.
