“Energy transition is essentially the process of alternation of dominant energy sources.”
When it comes to energy transition, we must first understand the concept. Energy transformation is the process of energy development and evolution. The most important manifestation is the continuous development and expansion of new energy consumption, and the continuous improvement of the proportion and status of new energy in the consumption structure. This is essentially the process of alternation of dominant energy sources. Generally speaking, energy transformation can include two levels: one is leading energy transformation, and the other is energy system transformation. For dominant energy conversion, it actually means that one or more energy sources replace the dominant position of another one or more energy sources. In essence, it is to adjust or optimize the energy structure. From the perspective of reality leading energy conversion, the energy transformation currently taking place is actually the process of gradually replacing high-carbon traditional fossil energy (coal, oil and natural gas) with low-carbon non-fossil energy (especially renewable energy), that is, an energy system dominated by non-fossil energy replaces an energy system dominated by fossil energy. The energy system is very complex and has specific functions for economic and social development. Its connotation is also very rich, including elements such as energy resource endowment, energy production, energy consumption, energy technology, energy storage and transportation, as well as energy governance systems, energy regulations and policies, energy market entities (including enterprises and energy consumers) and other elements.
Transformation and civilization go hand in hand. Energy transition promotes the evolution of human social civilization. The two have obvious characteristics of mutual promotion and symbiosis. It is difficult to say who is first and who is last. The energy transition and civilizational progress provide each other with motivation for progress and support conditions for each other. It should be an extremely complex coupling relationship, rather than a simple causal relationship. Energy has always been an important material basis and prerequisite for the survival and development of human society. However, in different periods or forms of the development of human society, energy takes different forms. The relationship between human society and energy development is not simple. It is difficult to make a logical relationship that is consistent with cause and effect, let alone reduce this issue to a "natural" relationship. In any case, the survival and development of human society cannot be separated from energy. This may be a convincing basic conclusion, because without energy there will be no power, without power there will be no universe, without the universe there will be no earth, and without the earth there would be no such strange life phenomenon as human beings.
