On February 25, 2025, Tesla began to push software updates to Chinese users in batches. The main content is the "FSD intelligent assisted driving function". It has been more than 10 years since Musk proposed the concept of FSD, to its official launch, and now. FSD has always been regarded as Tesla's most competitive capability. What expectations does Tesla bring when it enters China with autonomous driving? What kind of performance will it have? In recent years, China's new energy vehicles have grown rapidly, and the level of intelligent driving has been rapidly upgraded. A large number of highly competitive automobile companies have emerged. Will the arrival of Tesla's autonomous driving have an impact on them? Will Tesla still stand out like it did when it first entered the Chinese market? What changes will happen to China’s smart driving market? Focusing on these topics, the "CCTV Financial Review" column of the CCTV-2 financial channel invited Professor Yang Hangjun, deputy dean of the w88 casino of International Economics and w88 of w88 casino, to give an interpretation.

Professor Yang HangjunIndicates that the full English name of Tesla FSD is Full Self-Driving, which literally means fully autonomous driving. In fact, it is the intelligent assisted driving that everyone in China is familiar with, so FSD changed its name after coming to China from North America, and it is called "FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving Function". So why do a large number of car owners have expectations for Tesla FSD? Because Tesla was the first to do intelligent driving, especially after the large-scale artificial intelligence models began to explode in 2022, Tesla was the first in the world to start developing automatic driving systems based on large-scale model driving. Previous intelligent driving systems were based on rule-driven, which used many lines of code in advance to tell the car the rules for driving in various possible situations. It took one year for my country's Huawei, Ideal, Xpeng and other companies to start developing autonomous driving systems based on large model drivers. Therefore, Tesla FSD has technical advantages, and the overall feedback from FSD users in the United States is very good, so many domestic car owners have expectations.
Tesla FSD faces acclimatization when entering China due to the lack of local training, because Tesla has to meet the dual supervision of China and the United States - China does not allow Tesla to transfer training data abroad, and the U.S. government does not allow Tesla to conduct training in China. China has the largest amount of localized scene data, but Tesla’s computing power is only deployed overseas, making it difficult for Tesla to have both. Tesla FSD can only "enter China in a curve" in another way - using public video data of Chinese streets and combining it with simulators for training. But the problem that will arise is that Tesla cannot use actual traffic data on Chinese streets to train large models of its self-driving system. This is why some media on the Internet are saying that the Tesla PSD entering China this time is a emasculated version compared to the American version. It’s not that Tesla doesn’t want to put the latest American version of FSD into the Chinese market, it’s just that it can’t do it. Because the latest American version is trained based on actual scene big data in the United States, Tesla cannot use China's actual scene big data for training. It can only use Chinese video data publicly available on the Internet. In particular, the actual scenes and traffic rules and signs between China and the United States are very different, so the performance of the FSD version trained with public video data is poor.

Professor Yang Hangjunsaid that domestic car companies do not need to be nervous this time Tesla’s FSD autonomous driving technology enters the Chinese market. Tesla has technical advantages, especially in terms of computing power and algorithms. Tesla’s total computing power exceeds that of all Chinese car companies combined, and Tesla’s FSD chip is the world’s most powerful self-driving chip. Although Tesla's autonomous driving technology has certain advantages, the gap with Chinese car companies is rapidly narrowing. If Tesla had entered the Chinese market one or two years earlier, its autonomous driving technology would have been significantly ahead of domestic car companies. However, in the past year or so, domestic car companies have updated and iterated on autonomous driving too quickly. Tesla’s self-driving system is updated and iterated every 3-6 months. Domestic car companies can now update and iterate almost every month. It should be said that Tesla is still excellent in the fields of electric vehicles and autonomous driving, but Chinese car companies are also growing rapidly, and Tesla's lead is no longer large. Tesla's FSD autonomous driving technology has now entered the Chinese market, and it can be said that it has missed the best time.

Professor Yang Hangjunsaid that the FSD currently launched by Tesla in China is priced at as high as 64,000 yuan. An autonomous driving software package sells for 64,000, which is too high. There may be some Tesla owners who are willing to spend 64,000 to "try it" at the beginning, but if Tesla's FSD autonomous driving technology is not so amazing on China's roads, sales will not be very good. Compared with domestic car companies, Huawei's smart driving system sells for about 30,000 yuan, and BYD has launched a free standard "Eye of God" smart driving system. Ordinary consumers will be less willing to spend 64,000 yuan to buy Tesla FSD, unless its automatic driving function can crush the automatic driving function of Chinese car companies, but this possibility is very small. Tesla's current FSD pricing strategy in the Chinese market will face great challenges and may require some adjustments. For example, in addition to the one-time buyout price of 64,000 yuan, it can also provide monthly or quarterly subscription prices, allowing consumers to spend one to two thousand yuan to experience it first. If the user experience is good, they will naturally continue to subscribe.
