Cheng Zixuan
I am Cheng Zixuan, a 2017 undergraduate graduate from the w88 casino, and a volunteer teacher in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai ProvinceTeacher. I am honored to share with you my experience of teaching as a volunteer this year.
In August 2017, I and three other volunteers came to Haibei Prefecture No. 1 Senior High w88 casino and the vast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Regardless of the discomfort caused by the high altitude of 3,000 meters, we quickly devoted ourselves to teaching work. In less than a year, I successively took on the teaching tasks of English for the third grade of high w88 casino, geography for the second grade of high w88 casino, and Chinese for the second grade of high w88 casino. I became the volunteer with the most experience, putting in more hard work and gaining more experience.
Not only to spread knowledge, but also to develop ideas
When I first arrived in Qinghai, I first served as an English teacher for two ethnic classes in the third grade of high w88 casino. Facing the upcoming college entrance examination, facing students from pastoral areas with weak foundations, and facing the trust of w88 casino leaders, I, a new teacher with no teaching experience, felt a little at a loss. Faced with these heavy pressures, I quickly adjusted my mentality: if I had no teaching experience, I would invest twice as much; if I didn’t understand the teaching methods, I would humbly learn from other teachers; if I was not sure about the students’ mentality, I would exchange sincerity for sincerity and put myself in the students’ shoes. In this way, I prepare lessons for at least three hours every day, and play American dramas and English short plays for students during morning reading and extracurricular activities. I choose current popular terms and hot topics for composition and oral training, and try my best to improve students' interest in learning English.
Due to the imbalance of teacher resources, I took over the geography teaching task for two classes in the second grade of high w88 casino midway, and there were only two months left before the geography exam. In the process of contacting students, I gradually discovered that some students are very enthusiastic about learning and often go to the classroom to read early before seven o'clock. They don't even bother to eat breakfast. Some students even use flashlights after the lights are turned off to read in the dormitory at night. However, their academic performance is not satisfactory. The w88 casino's annual college entrance examination admission rate is less than 20%. After thinking about it, I think what students lack is not the enthusiasm to study hard, but efficient learning methods and clear ideas for solving questions. If you just study hard without summarizing and reflecting, then the learning efficiency will undoubtedly be low.
Understanding this truth, I did not rush to ask students to memorize knowledge points, nor did I use "question tactics" to put excessive pressure on students. Instead, I used a mind map to re-summarize the knowledge structure of the three textbooks, telling students to sort out the logical sequence of knowledge points, and then memorize them in an organized way. The process of doing the questions was like looking up a dictionary, matching the knowledge points in the brain with the questions one by one. "Teaching a man to fish is worse than teaching him to fish." This way of thinking and learning is applicable to many subjects and to their future work. This is the skill I most hope students can master.
Not only must we dream big, but we must also be down-to-earth
In the semester after get off work, I began to teach Chinese as a subject in the second grade of high w88 casino. The content happened to be ancient poetry, which I was least good at. In order to make the "obscure" ancient poems "lively and interesting", I changed the course arrangement and played short films for the students before each class, and the content was all-encompassing: there were CCTV channel variety shows "The Reader", "Classic Chant and Spread", "Poetry Conference", as well as domestic and foreign media's wonderful interpretations of the "China-US w88 War", including "My Country is Amazing", "Innovation China" and other high-quality short films. In class, I organically combined some short films with teaching content, modeled the "Poetry Conference", divided students into groups to play "Flying Flower Order", and organized debate competitions to extract their own opinions and opinions from discussions on current hot topics. After class, I talked with the students about values and morals, the significance of ancient poetry in inheriting traditional Chinese culture, and even talked about plans and dreams for the future.

These precious thoughts and discussions quickly narrowed the distance between me and the students. In less than a month, I exchanged contact information with more than 20 students in the class. We talked about everything from high-flying "dreams" to "down-to-earth" practical actions.
Time flies, and my teaching life will soon come to an end. The tension and excitement I felt when I stepped onto the podium a year ago seems to have happened yesterday. What I bring to the students is not only knowledge, but also thinking methods and efficient learning skills; what the students bring to me is not only growth, but also heavy touches and unforgettable memories!
