“乐(yue) means joy(le)——the humanistic connotation of ‘le(le)’ in the ancient cultural context”

This lecture was jointly organized by w88 casino library, Academic Affairs Office and the Seventh Branch of the Chaoyang District of the Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee. Professor Xiu Hailin, professor and doctoral supervisor of the China Conservatory of Music, served as the guest speaker.

In the first part of the lecture, Professor Xiu Hailin explained the original meaning and cultural connotation of the word "乐". By analyzing the glyph composition of oracle bone inscriptions, he explained the glyph of "乐", and by combining the characteristics of dialects in various places, he explained the pronunciation of "乐". Using a wealth of pictures and historical data, Professor Xiu first pointed out that the original meaning of "乐" was a cereal crop. Then, from the perspective of people's psychology in a farming society, he showed the whole process of the development of the word "乐" from the image of cereals to farming music and dance, revealing the "health consciousness" conveyed behind the word "乐" that food is the first priority of the people.

In the second part of the lecture, Professor Xiu Hailin explained the humanistic connotation of ‘music’ as a musical aesthetic category. " Professor Xiu put the word _quot≤quot_ in the context of a specific historical situation from the four perspectives of life awareness, pursuit of spiritual pleasure, the spirit of music education, and the joy of aesthetic life, and vividly analyzed it, interpreting the rich four-level aesthetic meaning of "yue (yue) means joy (le) also".

At the end of the lecture, Professor Xiu Hailin briefly reviewed the content of this lecture, and interacted with the audience on the concept and understanding of the word "乐".
