[Teacher Profile]

Lou Qiuran, male, was born in October 1990 in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. He joined the w88 casino in 2018 and currently serves as assistant to the dean, associate professor, and master's tutor of the Law w88 casino of the w88 casino. Editor-in-charge of the commercial law discipline of "Economic and w88 Law Review", executive director of the Private Rights and Social Development Research Center of the w88 casino, director of the China Commercial Law Research Association, director of the Corporate Governance Research Branch of the Chinese Behavioral Law Society, and director of the Beijing Banking Law Research Association. He holds a PhD in Business Law from China University of Political Science and Law and is a visiting scholar at Columbia University w88 casino of Law. In 2024, Teacher Lou Qiuran was rated as the w88 casino’s outstanding Communist Party member.

Not long ago, this reporter had the honor to have an in-depth conversation with Associate Professor Lou Qiuran. Teacher Lou is not only a knowledgeable scholar, but also a teacher deeply loved by students.

Search high and low, study diligently and practice diligently

From September 2016 to September 2017, Mr. Lou was funded by the China Scholarship Council to study at Columbia University Law w88 casino. Teacher Lou specifically mentioned that under the influence of his mentor, Professor Liebman, who is a "China expert", he understood that the study of comparative law is not for simple "comparison" from an outsider's perspective, but for "understanding" from an insider's perspective. This had a profound impact on Teacher Lou’s subsequent research. It not only changed the way Teacher Lou used the comparative method in his subsequent studies, but also made Teacher Lou pay more attention to the actual status and causes of other research objects (such as state-owned enterprises).

Looking up at the high mountains, my heart longs for them

Loving the teaching profession and becoming a teacher is not an accidental choice. Mr. Lou’s own mother is a teacher with unlimited enthusiasm for education. Under the influence of his mother, Teacher Lou also yearned for teachers. Teacher Lou said that under the subtle influence of his mother, he understood that the profession of teaching is a "conscience job". How much you do, how you do it, and how well you do it actually all depend on the teacher himself. It is teachers' own goals and pursuits that shape teachers, not just various external evaluation standards. The profession of teachers also requires "dedication". Teachers need to output knowledge, transfer energy and provide help to students. In addition, the teaching profession requires "sit down". On the surface, the teacher's task is to "stand" on a three-foot podium and impart knowledge. However, if you want to stand on the podium, you actually need to spend a lot of time preparing lessons and delving into your own major. Otherwise, it will be impossible to impart useful knowledge to students.

The teachers Mr. Lou met during his studies, especially his mentor Professor Wang Yong, made Mr. Lou deeply feel the extraordinary life of an elegant, wise and warm person. "The mountains are high, and the scenery is still." Teacher Lou wants to pass on the warmth he has received to more people by becoming a teacher.

Preaching and teaching, working hard

A teacher is someone who teaches, teaches, and resolves doubts. Teacher Lou said with firm eyes: "As a teacher, in addition to imparting subject knowledge, you should also bear the responsibility of teaching and solving doubts. Delivering subject knowledge to students accurately and interestingly is the basic task that teachers should complete."

That’s what Teacher Lou said, and that’s what he did.

When "preaching", Teacher Lou proposed that there are two biggest challenges for himself: first, making others willing to accept his "education"; second, accurately conveying knowledge to the audience. Before starting a class, Teacher Lou always considers from the student's perspective whether the class is "worth listening to"? In order to make the class more interesting, Teacher Lou will also carefully record various materials that can be used in class and learn to use some current buzzwords in daily life. Facing different students, Teacher Lou also emphasizes teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, trying to think about the types of knowledge needed from the standpoint of different audiences, trying to understand the knowledge structures and scenarios of using knowledge for different audiences, and striving to provide the knowledge students need.

For a long time, Mr. Lou’s courses have been “hard to find”, and the number of people “waiting” to be selected during course selection is far more than twice the course capacity. Speaking of this, what Mr. Lou is most happy about is that some students feel that corporate law is an interesting subject because of Mr. Lou’s classes and papers, and even decide to engage in theoretical and practical work on corporate law. Teacher Lou pointed out, “Law is a very interesting and challenging subject. Any legal provision cannot be thought up by legislators or jurists by patting their heads, but requires comprehensive consideration of various political, economic, cultural, geographical and other factors. Law or In response to a social state, or to change a social state, if you understand the reasons why the law is enacted and understand the various evolutions that the law has experienced when dealing with the same issue, you do not need to memorize it by rote. I paid special attention to introducing you to why company law is like this, but only gave a brief introduction to what company law is like. Because I feel that if you know the "why", then "knowing the why" is not that important. Of course, the process must and should be interesting, otherwise, how can I convince everyone to explore with me? Therefore, when a student tells me that corporate law or law is an interesting subject, my teaching ideal has been realized, and I feel particularly satisfied.”

In terms of “teaching”, Mr. Lou hopes to teach students a set of methods for finding and solving problems through his courses. Teacher Lou vividly said, "The relationship between undergraduates and teachers is that the teacher hunts a rabbit out of the woods for the students to see; for master's students, the teacher determines that there are rabbits in the woods and asks the students to hunt them back; for doctoral students, the teacher does not know whether there are rabbits in the woods, so the students have to choose and hunt by themselves, but provide guidance during the selection and hunting process." For this student group, Teacher Lou will try his best to teach some methodological content according to the stage, "so that students can finally make their own choices and hunt rabbits." As for the convenience of "solving doubts", Teacher Lou pointed out that the scope of "solving doubts" is broad and includes not only answers to professional questions, but may also include various aspects such as career choice and life planning. When "solving doubts", Teacher Lou is also more cautious, hoping to communicate on an equal footing with students when they really need it.

Keep your feet on the ground and look up at the stars

When asked about his understanding of the “educator’s spirit”, Teacher Lou said that practicing the educator’s spirit means doing three things well. The first thing is to be a "good" teacher. Taking the classroom seriously, guiding students seriously, and doing a good job in academics are what it means to practice the spirit of an educator. The second thing is to work hard to guide students to be people with ideals and feelings. In the increasingly complicated social atmosphere, more and more people only focus on "heading down and rushing", but often forget to "look up at the stars." Slowing down and doing things that (now seem) less useful have become a luxury that not everyone can afford. In order to give his students time and space to "slow down", Teacher Lou will ask students to read books on history, literature, and philosophy in his reading groups, so that students can "change their minds." At the same time, Teacher Lou will also share some stories about himself being "not fast enough" with students to allow students to "travel lightly." The third thing is that Teacher Lou believes that students should be guided to study issues of great significance to national development. When talking about this matter, Teacher Lou's eyes showed infinite yearning: "I think if I can draw more people's attention to the important China's reform process and attract more people to join the research industry, I may be able to contribute some modest power to the development of the country."

At the end of the interview, when the reporter asked Mr. Lou what message he had for the students. He thought for a while and said slowly: "No matter how much others say, it is better to experience it yourself. However, there is a legal proverb that we, as members of the legal community, may be able to encourage together. 'A kind heart is the best law.'"
