Professor Michael Spence gave a speech on the theme of "Employment, Digital Technology and Economic Structural Change". He pointed out that although the 2008 financial crisis caused a heavy blow to the global economy, the digital technology and information technology revolution injected impetus into the economic recovery. It is undeniable that the emergence of artificial intelligence will have an impact on employment, and simple repetitive labor may be completely replaced by machines in the future. According to statistical data from 1967 to 2011, the demand for labor in routine work, whether physical or mental, has shown a very obvious downward trend. Between 2007 and 2012, the phenomenon of manufacturing production workers being replaced by machines was the most serious. The impact of digital technology is revolutionary, which has also changed the original world economic and competitiveness pattern. Professor Spence is full of confidence in the development of China's economy. He said that China will make important contributions to the development of the world economy now and in the future, especially in the field of electronic information technology. China's progress deserves the world's attention. China’s investment in science and technology continues to increase, and technological progress is an important source of competitive advantage for tradable goods.
