The Council reviewed and approved the 2017 UNIDROIT Annual Report and the Uniform Law Foundation Report, discussed the selection process of the UNIDROIT Secretary-General and approved the appointment of a new Secretary-General. Professor Tirado from Spain was elected as the new Secretary-General of UNIDROIT.
On issues related to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment, the meeting discussed the implementation status of the Luxembourg Railway Protocol and the Space Assets Protocol, the Preliminary Draft of the Protocol on Agriculture, Mining and Construction Equipment, and the preparation of other possible protocols (including the Protocol on Ships and Maritime Transport Equipment and the Protocol on Renewable Energy Equipment).
In the field of private law and agricultural development, the Council focuses on the follow-up activities and related promotion of the UNIDROIT/FAO/IFAD legislative guide on agricultural order contracts, and the preparation of international guidance documents on agricultural land investment contracts.
In terms of transnational civil procedure rules, the Council discussed issues related to the regional rules being developed by the European Law Institute (ELI) and UNIDROIT and the future launch of the "Effective Enforcement Principles".
The Council reviewed and adopted the "Cross-border Transactions in Capital Markets: Legislative Guidelines for Intermediary Held Securities" related to the Geneva Securities Convention.
In terms of the development of rules for international commercial contracts, the Council is concerned about the development process of principles related to reinsurance contracts.
In the field of international sales law, the Council continued to discuss cooperation with the United Nations Commission on International w88 Law (UNCITRAL) and the Hague Conference on Private International Law (Hague Conference) to prepare a guidance document on the existing valid texts developed by these three international organizations and related progress.
