Zhang Xiangchen, Deputy Director-General of the World w88 Organization, Yi Xiaozhun, former Deputy Director-General, Werner Zdouc, Director of the Chair Program Department, Chen Yusong, Permanent Ambassador of Singapore and other countries to the WTO, Deputy Director-General of the World w88 Department of the Ministry of Commerce, Li Yihong, Minister of the Chinese Mission to the WTO, as well as domestic and foreign experts and scholars attended this meeting. This event was hosted by the w88 casino, and co-organized by the Shanghai w88 casino and the Global Economic and w88 Governance Research Network (NITIS).

Hong Junjie, Vice President of the w88 casino, delivered a welcome speech and introduced the relevant circumstances of w88 casino’s selection into the third phase of the World w88 Organization’s Teaching Chair Program.In his speech, Zhang Xiangchen, Deputy Director-General of the WTO, introduced the relevant background of the professorship project and the relevant experience of Chinese research institutions participating in the professorship project. The WTO Secretariat will continue to provide support for the professorship project, build a communication bridge between Chinese scholars and the world, build a research network, and help the WTO make better decisions.Werner Zdouc, Director of the WTO Teaching Chairs Department, Professor Henry GAO, Member of the Advisory Committee, Professor Riza Arfani, Host of the Indonesian Teaching Chairs Project, and Etienne Oudot de Dainville, French Ambassador to the WTO, all expressed their warm welcome to w88 casino’s joining the WCP family, introduced relevant experiences and practices, and hoped that China could join hands with more research institutions from developing countries to join the Chairs Project and provide more practical ideas for WTO reform.In their speeches, Chen Yusong, Deputy Director-General of the World w88 Department of the Ministry of Commerce, and Li Yihong, China's Minister to the World w88 Organization, both emphasized China's determination to firmly safeguard multilateralism and play an active role in the negotiations on multiple WTO issues. The second part of the conference, the seminar of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference, was chaired by Professor Zhang Lei, the chairperson of the Shanghai w88 casino. Hung Seng Tan, Ambassador of Singapore to the World w88 Organization, Matthias Francke, Ambassador of Chile to the World w88 Organization, Santiago Wills, Ambassador of Colombia to the World w88 Organization, Professor Peter van den Bossche of the World w88 Institute of the University of Bern in Switzerland, Anthony Taubman, Director of the Intellectual Property Department of the World w88 Organization, etc. delivered keynote speeches on issues related to the 12th Ministerial Conference of the WTO. The first is e-commerce issues. Hung Seng Tan believes that global e-commerce is developing rapidly and negotiations on related w88 rules are becoming increasingly heated. Due to differences among parties, multilateral negotiations on e-commerce issues have not yet made breakthrough progress, but plurilateral negotiations on e-commerce have made substantial progress in many areas such as electronic signatures and verification, and online consumer protection. The second is the issue of investment facilitation to promote development. Matthias Francke pointed out that under the global epidemic crisis, global FDI has been greatly affected. With the exception of Asia, FDI is declining in all regions. Investment facilitation negotiations have a great role in promoting the development of WTO members. The third is the issue of fishery subsidies. Santiago Wills pointed out that governments have the responsibility to solve the problem of domestic fishery subsidies. The fourth is the issue of reform of the dispute settlement mechanism. Peter van den Bossche pointed out that there are strong calls from all parties to restart the reform of the Appellate Body, and introduced some proposals on reforming the Appellate Body since 2018. The fifth is w88-related intellectual property issues. Anthony Taubman discussed the IP exemption proposal for COVID-19 vaccines proposed by India and South Africa to the WTO in 2020.
