In December 2012, at the twelfth meeting of the China-Russia Education Cooperation Subcommittee, the two sides proposed the establishment of the China-Russia Economic University Alliance. The establishment of the alliance coincided with the launch of China's major "One Belt, One Road" initiative. Chinese member universities actively integrated into the national development strategy, with the purpose of serving major needs, strengthening discipline construction, and cultivating interdisciplinary professionals needed in the new era. Chinese alliance member universities have continuously explored and achieved good results in promoting talent exchanges and academic exchanges with Russian member universities. Taking the internationalization of education as an example, in 2019, the number of two-way exchange students between China and Russia exceeded 100,000, achieving the goal set by the two heads of state one year ahead of schedule. Since the establishment of the alliance, universities have carried out fruitful exchanges and cooperation in joint student training, exchange learning, teacher training, and joint scientific research.
