On the morning of September 10, teachers Huang Xiaowei, Huang Yinghong, and Wang Yun, deans of the Department of Financial Engineering at China University of Finance and Economics, led 40 students from financial engineering, quantitative finance experimental classes and other majors to the Beijing headquarters of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to carry out summer training activities.
The core part of the practical training was held in the AIIB conference room. Ms. Wu Xiaobo from the AIIB Press Bureau was invited to give special lectures to the students. Starting from the brief introduction of the AIIB, she systematically introduced the original intention of the establishment of the AIIB, the operational structure of the Beijing headquarters, and elaborated on the AIIB’s purpose of “promoting economic connectivity and partnership in Asia”, adhering to the operating philosophy of multilateralism, and the core values of “lean, clean and green”.
In the interactive Q&A session, students actively asked questions. Regarding the question raised by classmates about "how the AIIB responds to geopolitical challenges and carries out international cooperation," Ms. Wu Xiaobo responded that the AIIB has integrated the collective capabilities of its members and relied on the board of directors' discussion mechanism to focus on responding to various challenges with project practice within the existing governance structure to ensure efficient operation of the institution. Regarding the question about "capital operation methods", Wu Xiaobo explained that AIIB members adhere to the common goal of "concentrating capital to do things together". The project layout is not tilted based on equity size, but focuses on supporting infrastructure construction in less developed countries such as India, Indonesia, Turkey, Bangladesh, etc. Even though China is the largest equity country, it always adheres to the coordination of multilateral interests.
Huang Xiaowei further guided the students to think during the exchange: "The college is committed to cultivating open financial talents. If students are interested in participating in global governance, what core qualities must they possess? What are the growth paths?" Teacher Wu Xiaobo pointed out that the functions of different departments have their own focus, and each department favors talents with interdisciplinary backgrounds. It provides students with clear guidance for their future exploration in the field of capital operations.
After the exchange, the students visited the AIIB headquarters facilities under the guidance of the staff. The lobby of the headquarters is solemn and grand, and the exhibition area on the 13th floor is co-organized with the Central Academy of Fine Arts to convey the concept of the integration of art and finance; the sky garden adopts the "Luban lock" structural design, which not only realizes the space travel function, but also demonstrates the wisdom of traditional Chinese architecture. The "Chinese knot" shape from an overlooking perspective has become an iconic symbol of institutional culture.
This AIIB practical training has been very fruitful for the students.
