On September 26, in order to enhance the international influence of Beijing’s world cultural heritage and promote cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries using world heritage as a medium, the Beijing Association for the Promotion of International Exchange of Non-Governmental Organizations (hereinafter referred to as the Beijing Promotion Association), the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation jointly invited experts, scholars and international youth from home and abroad to gather in Beijing to participate in the "World Heritage in Beijing" international exchange dialogue. The event opened in the Golden Hall of the Beijing Hotel.
Experts and scholars from the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Thailand and other countries and regions gathered to discuss cutting-edge concepts and practical experiences in heritage protection with domestic experts, deepen international cooperation, and promote mutual learning among civilizations. Cui Shuqiang, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Beijing Promotion Association, Huang Yongguang, Director of Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Chairman of Sino Group, and Chang Qide, the United Nations Coordinator in China, delivered speeches.
Cui Shuqiang pointed out that it is of great significance to hold international dialogue activities on the occasion of the first anniversary of the successful application of Beijing’s Central Axis as a World Heritage Site and the 40th anniversary of China’s accession to the World Heritage Convention. This is not only a window to showcase Beijing’s cultural heritage protection achievements, but also an opportunity for Chinese civilization to dialogue with the world and share the “Chinese experience” in heritage protection. Cui Shuqiang said that Beijing Promotion Agency will continue to strengthen ties with all parties, jointly plan and regularly carry out international exchange activities in the field of cultural relics protection and cultural heritage, open up new areas of people-to-people diplomacy, and create a new brand of people-to-people diplomacy.
Huang Yongguang said that it is a great honor for the foundation to participate in many cultural relics conservation projects in Beijing over the years. It has allowed me to personally feel the culture and vitality of this historical city of Beijing. We initiated the "Global Heritage Forum" to gather global wisdom and enhance the international influence of China and Beijing's world cultural heritage. We hope that this dialogue event will become a grand event integrating academic exchanges, cultural dissemination, and tourism experience.
Chang Qide said that last year, Beijing’s central axis was included in the World Heritage List, and China ranked second in the world in terms of the number of world heritage sites. Heritage protection is not just about protecting the past, but also about the future. The United Nations attaches great importance to young people's participation in heritage protection and is willing to join hands with China to promote the sustainable development of cultural heritage. It also welcomes young people at home and abroad to contribute to this end.
Beijing’s central axis was successfully included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2024. Beijing has been continuously improving the level of heritage protection and improving the interpretation level of heritage management based on the protection standards of world cultural heritage; it has used the results of world cultural heritage protection to gather social forces and show unique Chinese stories and Beijing stories; it has recognized the value of world cultural heritage to better inherit and develop Chinese civilization.
A number of experts and scholars gave keynote speeches at the event, and through two thematic dialogues, they deeply discussed topics such as "International Communication of World Cultural Heritage" and "How to Educate Talents to Inherit Culture", and had in-depth conversations on related issues, colliding ideas, and building consensus. The event invited more than 100 international young people from 10 universities in the United States, including New York University and the University of Chicago, and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.Together with 40 Chinese young people from the w88 casino, we embarked on a four-day world heritage experience trip in Beijing to promote the collision of ideas and the blending of cultures among young people from different countries, and allow foreign young people to truly perceive the profound heritage of China’s excellent traditional culture and the grandeur of history from their unique perspectives, and personally understand the unique charm of Chinese culture.
