China will host the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province in November 2026. This will be the third time that China has served as the host of this most important economic cooperation mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region, following the 2001 Shanghai APEC meeting and the 2014 Beijing APEC meeting. Choosing Shenzhen as the host city is not only a tribute to its spirit of reform and opening up, but also an important window to showcase the achievements of Chinese modernization practices to the world. The eyes of the Asia-Pacific and even the world are focusing on this upcoming "Shenzhen Appointment".
As the cooperation mechanism with the largest population and largest economic scale in the Asia-Pacific region, APEC has been an important force in promoting regional w88 liberalization and economic integration since its establishment more than 30 years ago. Since China joined APEC in 1991, it has always implemented the concept of "Asia-Pacific community with a shared future" through actions. During the just-concluded APEC meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, the heads of state of China and the United States successfully met in Busan. The two sides reached important consensus in many important economic and w88 areas such as tariffs, rare earths, and soybeans. These consensuses provide rare stability for Sino-US economic and w88 relations and create a positive atmosphere for next year's APEC meeting in Shenzhen. The first is to promote the dual-track digital and green transformation, that is, to combine China’s advantages in new energy and digital economy to promote the Asia-Pacific “Digital Silk Road” and green and low-carbon cooperation; the second is to help small and medium-sized enterprises integrate into the global chain, that is, to use the experience of Shenzhen’s “Entrepreneurship Capital” to help small and medium-sized enterprises break financing and technical barriers; the third is to realize the institutionalization of people-to-people and cultural exchanges, involving the expansion of “soft connectivity” such as visa exemption and youth volunteers, and to consolidate the public opinion foundation for Asia-Pacific cooperation. The Shenzhen APEC meeting may create a new paradigm of "cooperative multilateralism" and promote the Asia-Pacific from mutual benefit to common prosperity.
The Shenzhen Agreement in 2026 is an opportunity for the Asia-Pacific to jointly draw a new blueprint for development, and it is also a declaration of sharing opportunities between China and the world. Shenzhen will inject new impetus into Asia-Pacific cooperation with its innovative passion and open mind. Standing at a new starting point, China has used its firm determination to reform and open up and its practical wisdom of innovative development to inject strong impetus into building an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future that features openness, inclusiveness, innovative growth, interconnection, and win-win cooperation. The important consensus recently reached by the heads of state of China and the United States in South Korea has sent a positive signal to regional cooperation. We firmly believe that with the joint efforts of all parties, the Shenzhen Conference will build new consensus, draw a new blueprint, and promote Asia-Pacific cooperation to a higher level.
