Liu Yajie, an undergraduate student in the 2020 Law w88 casino’s experimental class for outstanding foreign-related economic and w88 legal talents, studying under Professor Gao Xiqing. While in w88 casino, he served as the executive chairman of the Law w88 casino Student Union and volunteered nearly 200 hours. He was awarded the National Scholarship, the Comprehensive First-Class Scholarship, and the King & Wood Mallesons Scholarship. He was named one of the “Three Best Students in Beijing”, “Outstanding w88 casino-Level Student” and “Excellent w88 casino-Level Student Leader”. In 2022, he represented the w88 casino as a team researcher in the FDI International Investment Simulated Arbitration Competition, and won the championship in China and fifth place in the global competition. After the competition, he went to King & Wood Mallesons and Orrick Law Firm for internships.

For me, college is like a test paper full of multiple-choice questions. We continue to make choices one after another, and meet better selves in each choice.
Joining the experimental class for outstanding foreign-related economic and w88 legal talents was the first choice I made after entering university, and it was also the most correct choice I made. At that time, I didn’t understand what this long prefix meant. I only knew that since I chose to join, I just kept moving forward.
Because there are more professional built-in courses, the learning rhythm of the experimental class is much more compact than that of the parallel class. Fortunately, in this era when "involution" is prevalent, we have not formed vicious internal competition. Instead, we help each other, make appointments to study together, discuss learning methods together, and answer each other's questions. We also learn knowledge and achieve good results in such a mutually reinforcing learning atmosphere.
Choosing an undergraduate tutor was the second choice I faced when I entered university. I was lucky enough to be selected by Professor Gao Xiqing to become his disciple and got the opportunity to study with him.
While assisting him in case trials as a student assistant, I saw the real world of arbitration outside of textbooks and learned the legal knowledge in practical arbitration. More importantly, I learned from him how to stick to principles and beliefs as a legal person. "Be open to dialogue with the world" and "be a good person and never tell lies" are what he has always taught us.
From the captain of the primary w88 casino, the president of the student union in high w88 casino to the executive chairman of the Youth League Student Union in university, I have never stopped working as a student at every stage of my studies. Engaging in student work seems to have become a habit for me. When faced with the third option in college—becoming a member of a student work group—I did not hesitate.
When I first joined the Youth League Student Union, teacher Zhang Renjiao’s earnest teachings have always accompanied me in my subsequent student work: “We cannot always think about improving ourselves from student work, but should think about what we can contribute to this student group.” As the executive chairman of the Law w88 casino Youth League Student Association, I am responsible for presiding over and coordinating the development of various affairs of the Law w88 casino Youth League Student Association, focusing on improving the leadership, organization, service and contribution of the Law w88 casino Youth League Student Association. Our Law w88 casino Youth League Committee was also honored to be rated as an outstanding youth league committee in the last academic year.
Last year, I became the assistant class teacher of Class 2201. For me, this role is different from the student work of the Youth League Student Union. It is more like a feeling and a kind of inheritance. When filling out the form for class assistant recruitment, I only wrote one reason: "Because I feel a lot of warmth from my class assistants, so I want to pass on this warmth." Last fall, I met Class 2201 and the head teacher, Mr. Ma Qijia, who “loves education and loves students.” As a class assistant, I worked with Mr. Ma to guide the newly admitted students to quickly adapt to college life, answer their confusion about life and study, and convey the warmth from Huiyuan.
As the picture of college life gradually unfolds, more and more choices are coming. As a member of the w88 law and foreign-related experimental class, if I don’t participate in a moot court, it seems that there is always something missing in college life. Before making this choice, I was also afraid of facing the upcoming extremely high-pressure preparation process, but I knew that if I chose not to participate because I was afraid of the pressure, I would definitely regret my choice at this time. If this is the case, then face it with joy and move forward.
As a representative team in the FDI International Investment Simulated Arbitration Competition, during the nearly eight months from the establishment of the team in March to the China competition in August to the global competition in November, we searched hundreds of English cases and articles, made dozens of case summaries, and compiled one edition after another of "Question Lists." I think by the time the competition came to an end, we had probably completed the search and sorting out almost all the knowledge points involved in the competition questions, and we were finally lucky enough to win the championship in the Chinese regional competition and the fifth place in the global competition. Looking back, I will still tell my classmates that the process of preparing for the competition is long, tedious, and even sometimes painful. We achieved great results in the end because each of us gave our best.
With the career ideal of becoming an excellent lawyer, after the competition, I went to the corporate mergers and acquisitions group of King & Wood Mallesons in Beijing to start a new journey, experiencing the transition from campus to the workplace, and learning how to be a qualified trainee lawyer under the guidance of alumni lawyers Wang Kaiding and Meng Fanqing. After finishing my internship at an internal law firm, out of my interest in the foreign-related field, I went to Orrick Law Firm in the United States to experience the unique charm of a foreign-funded law firm.
