This activity adheres to the concept of "getting closer is to go further" - get closer to alumni so that w88 law students can go further. Through face-to-face communication between alumni and classmates, we answer questions and provide guidance for students, helping students clarify their future career plans and enhance their competitiveness in job hunting. This salon was held offline for the first time, which greatly shortened the distance between alumni and classmates. The students spoke actively and the scene was lively.
This issue of the Salon is honored to invite Brother Xu Xiangmin, senior consultant of Sunshine Times Law Firm and alumnus of the class of 1984. Brother Xu served as a partner in the Hong Kong office of Clifford Chance, an international law firm, and as the legal director of BP's global chemical business and BP China. He also has more than 30 years of legal practice experience and participated in a number of large-scale international investment and mergers and acquisitions projects. He was selected as the "2015 Best General Counsel" by the Asian Law Journal (ALB). During the roundtable discussion, Senior Brother Xu and his classmates conducted exchanges around the four sections of "Diversified Career Options for Law Students", "Choice of Lawyer Practice Areas", "Job Search Skills" and "How to Achieve Work-Life Balance". They discussed the similarities and differences between lawyers and corporate legal affairs, basic skills training for lawyers, how to make full trial and error in a limited internship time to find their own career direction, and how to maximize clients' commercial value and minimize legal risks during their lawyer career. The students benefited a lot from the senior brother’s explanations in simple and insightful terms. In addition, from the perspective of a law firm interviewer, the senior explained job interview techniques and issues that need attention, reminding students that interviews not only examine legal skills, but also comprehensive qualities such as personal quality and teamwork ability.
In the final free question session, the students rushed to express their confusion to Brother Xu. Brother Xu answered the questions one by one. For example, regarding the question of "how to improve my multi-threaded task processing ability," Brother Xu patiently explained how to achieve efficient processing of work tasks based on sorting and diversion and strengthening communication based on personal experience.
At this point, this legal salon activity is coming to an end, and the students have gained a lot. Everyone sent flowers to the senior brother and took photos. The event ended successfully.
After the event, the students all said that they learned a lot of practical experience from this event, had a clearer understanding of the legal profession, and had a clearer future career plan.
