Focus on Asia Education Forum Zhou Ji reveals China’s 15-year education plan

For developing countries with a large population like China, the fundamental way to transform our country's heavy population burden into huge human resources is to rely on the development of education.

In order to promote the sustainable and healthy development of education, the Chinese government is currently formulating a medium- and long-term education development plan.

In the next fifteen years, China’s educational development goals can be summarized as follows: accelerating the modernization of education, building a country with strong human resources, and building a learning society in which all people learn and pursue lifelong learning.

The three major tasks for education development we have determined are: consolidating the results of nine-year compulsory education and laying a more solid foundation for human resource development; accelerating the development of vocational and technical education and comprehensively promoting human resource development; and vigorously improving the quality of higher education. Cultivate more creative senior talents and enhance the country's innovation capabilities.

In today’s world, Asia is one of the most dynamic regions. Asian countries also have many similarities in educational concepts and systems. For example, many Asian countries have a long history of attaching importance to education. In order to promote educational exchanges and cooperation among Asian countries, especially with regard to the three themes of this ministerial roundtable meeting, namely, the cultivation of high-level creative talents; the promotion and strengthening of inter-regional exchanges of students and scholars; and the quality assurance and supervision of transnational educational cooperation, the following suggestions are put forward:

First, strengthen contacts among high-level education circles in various countries and establish institutionalized bilateral and changeable consultation mechanisms. The second is to focus on key universities in various countries to carry out cooperation in the cultivation of high-level innovative talents such as joint training; the third is to establish an institutionalized exchange mechanism for scholars and international students; the fourth is to carry out substantive consultations on the exchange of academic qualifications between countries as soon as possible and promote the signing of mutual recognition agreements between Asian countries; the fifth is to conduct in-depth research and cooperation on the establishment of quality assurance and supervision mechanisms for transnational education cooperation in the region.
