Teaching Workshop: How to organize effective classroom discussions

Wu Juan emphasized that if you want to explore appropriate teaching methods in the information age, you must first understand the changing status and direction of students. The two are inseparable, and use this as a starting point to deeply analyze classroom teaching and share your own teaching experience.

Wu Juan said that the students faced by teachers in today's era are a generation that is highly dependent on information technology terminals. Students born in the 1990s generally lack attention in class, and "head-downers" are common in classrooms. In response to these difficult issues, Wu Juan believes:

On the one hand, we should start from the changes of the times, based on the achievement theory of the "learning pyramid" and combined with the concept of "teacher-led, student-centered", to design teaching strategies that allow students to discuss independently. In this teaching method, students will use media, micro-classes, etc. as the main body of learning, and most of the teaching content will be interactive outside class; teachers need to do a good job in teaching design and focus on teaching guidance.

On the other hand, with the support of technical conditions, student group discussions, student activity classes and other contents are appropriately added to the teaching process to improve students' concentration through group interaction, and are assisted by strategies such as group awards and excellence evaluation to reduce undesirable phenomena such as inactivity and inaction among group members.

Finally, Wu Juan organized teachers to conduct group and group discussions. The topics included: problems existing in discussion-based teaching and introduction to experience methods, advantages and disadvantages of discussion-based teaching, precautions and solutions, etc. Teachers actively participated and expressed their opinions. Each group also summarized the results of the teachers' discussion on the whiteboard for sharing and communication between groups. After the group discussion experience, the teachers came to the "interesting" conclusion that "discussion teaching is very helpful for interviews." After the whole activity, all the participating teachers said they had benefited a lot.
