The seminar was co-organized by the Chinese Council for BRICS Think Tank Cooperation and Renmin University of China. Jin Xin, Assistant Minister of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary-General of the Chinese Council for BRICS Think Tank Cooperation, and Zhang Donggang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Renmin University of China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. More than 100 people from think tanks of 19 BRICS member countries and partner countries, as well as representatives of think tanks and international organizations from some developed countries, attended the meeting and conducted in-depth discussions on green development paths, green cooperation mechanisms, green technology standards, North-South cooperation and other topics. Jin Xin said in his speech that President Xi Jinping’s advocacy of building a “green BRICS” conforms to the trend of the times when BRICS countries and developing countries are exploring green development paths, and points out the important direction for deepening “Greater BRICS Cooperation” in the future. As an important platform for cooperation between emerging market countries and developing countries, BRICS countries should strengthen unity and collaboration, play a leading role, and actively advocate global cooperation to promote low-carbon transformation and green development. BRICS think tanks should strengthen green consensus, strengthen policy research, deepen pragmatic cooperation, and work together to embody the ideological wisdom of the "Global South" and jointly build a clean, beautiful, and sustainable world.

At the meeting, Professor Lan Qingxin served as the host of the launching ceremony of the "Global South" green cooperation joint research project and green cooperation workstation, and witnessed the official launch of the joint research project and workstation with representatives from many countries. This research project is led by the National Institute of Development and Strategy of Renmin University of China, and collaborates with think tanks from BRICS and “Global South” countries to conduct strategic research around green transformation and sustainable development. Relying on the innovative resources of Beijing, especially Haidian District, the Green Cooperation Workstation will provide platform support for BRICS cooperation in green industry, clean energy and green technology.

Teacher Tanya participated in a roundtable dialogue with overseas think tanks as a guest speaker and gave a special report on "Cooperation for Sustainable Energy Transformation in the Global South". She pointed out that the practice of BRICS countries in energy transformation has shown strong potential, and clean energy should be transformed into tangible economic growth points and improvement of people's livelihood through industrial collaboration, distributed energy, green employment, waste recycling and other paths. She shared representative cases such as China's "Thousands of Villages and Villages Harnessing the Wind Initiative" and Brazil's "Bright Project", demonstrating how to enhance the independent capabilities of green development in the "Global South" through technological empowerment and industrial linkage.
