The speaker of the lecture is Professor Yang Guang, researcher and former director of the Institute of West Asian and African Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and dean of the Institute of International and Regional Studies at Tsinghua University. In the lecture, Professor Yang Guang believed that the development path issue is the core issue in the study of developing countries. In Middle Eastern and African countries, economic development plays a decisive role in the development path. Professor Yang Guang said that the current development path problems of Middle Eastern and African countries are mainly manifested in four aspects: first, the overall slow economic growth rate; second, the per capita economic growth rate is significantly different from that in East Asia; third, the poverty problem is intensifying; fourth, the unemployment problem is serious, especially among the youth population.
Professor Yang Guang introduced the tortuous exploration process of Middle Eastern and African countries on the road of development. He pointed out that the exploration of development paths in Middle Eastern and African countries can be roughly divided into four types, and analyzed the formation background of these four development types and the reasons for their failure from a theoretical perspective.
Professor Yang Guang also outlined the new explorations and new practices of Middle Eastern and African countries on development issues. He pointed out that Middle East and African countries should properly handle the relationship between development theory and practical conditions. Professor Yang Guang finally emphasized the importance of innovation in development theory and the path of industrialization in solving development problems in the Middle East and Africa.
