Professor Li Yunbo, Dean of the w88 casino of Foreign Languages, Professor Nie Bin, Director of the Department of Vietnamese, Associate Professor Wu Han, Director of the Department of Italian, and teachers and students from other departments participated in this wonderful lecture.
The speaker, Professor Jiang Jingkui, is currently the director of the Center for South Asian Studies at Peking University, the deputy director of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Institutions Steering Committee, and the chairman of the Non-Common Languages Sub-steering Committee. Mainly engaged in teaching and research on Indian literature and culture, Indian religion, and South Asian regional issues. He has received many honors, such as "International Hindi Award" (Award for Contribution to Hindi Language and Literature), "George Gleason Award" (International Award for Highest Achievement in Hindi) and "Camille Bourque Award" (Award for Overseas Scholars of Hindi), etc.
In this lecture, Professor Jiang described the new situation of regional and country research in the new era in a way that runs through ancient and modern times and combined with his own experience, and pointed out the new research posture that should be under the new situation. Professor Jiang pointed out that China, which now stands at the center of the world stage, is faced with the urgent need to conduct regional and country research. Researchers should base their research on the region toWith the attitude of “paying equal attention, respecting, and understanding”, foreign languages are used as the starting point to truly conduct regional and country research. He creatively compared regional country research to "pond research" and pointed out that among the three research levels of "lotus", "water and mud" and "lotus root", researchers should focus on "water and mud", that is, the language of the destination country. Only by deepening the research into the language of the destination country can we better understand the status of "lotus" and "lotus root".
After the lecture came to an end, the teachers and students present also actively communicated and exchanged with Professor Jiang. In this session, Professor Jiang pointed out the importance of knowing oneself clearly and doing domestic research: emphasizing that foreign language learners are not only a tool for collecting information, but also an important force invested in regional and country research.
