In the lecture, Liu Fuguo comprehensively introduced the current security issues in the Asia-Pacific region, including the challenges and characteristics of current Asian security, regional arms competition, the development direction of regional integration dynamics and security cooperation mechanisms, intra-regional power competition, and security challenges in Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia, etc. Among them, he emphasized the security challenges in East Asia, such as the confrontation between South and North Korea, conflicts between China and Japan, East China Sea (Diaoyu Islands) disputes, energy (oil and gas field) disputes, South China Sea issues, internal integration of ASEAN, etc. Based on comprehensive observations, Liu Fuguo believes that the current Asia-Pacific security landscape closely revolves around the rise of China: on the one hand, China's relatively strong foreign policy will promote close cooperation with neighboring countries; on the other hand, Sino-US strategic competition is the core trend of regional security, and the continued expansion of ASEAN countries' actions will continue to cause disputes in the South China Sea. Regarding Taiwan's status in the Asia-Pacific security environment, Liu Fuguo believes that Taiwan should implement a more flexible policy and adopt a strategy that is adapted to both mainland China and the United States on the basis of having an independent regional security strategy.
