At 15:00 on November 20, the volunteers arrived at the mobile classroom on time. Through two small activities, volunteers learned about relevant Winter Olympics knowledge and the meaning and design concepts of the mascots for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics.
After the short warm-up activity,“I make paintings for the Winter Olympics” – the activity of hand-making Winter Olympics mascots has officially begun. Volunteers used stamping needles, silk threads and other tools needed to make mascots to fully interpret the meaning of the Winter Olympics and convey the design concept on the embroidered cloth. Every volunteer is fully involved in the creative process, feeling it with their hands and talking with their heart. They help each other, encourage each other, the needle and thread shuttle in their hands, and the warmth is passed on in the classroom.
Making a mascot is a very patient and challenging task. It requires volunteers to outline it stitch by stitch in order to make the cute image of the mascot appear on the embroidered cloth. The volunteers held needles and threads in their hands, watched the video tutorials, and combined their own understanding before starting to sew. The whole process is time-consuming and labor-intensive, but the volunteers enjoy it.
Time flies, and the two-hour event is coming to an end. The volunteers once again participated in the Winter Olympics quizzes, showed their production results in their circle of friends, and shared their experience with more people.
