Ding Xiangru, Director of the Faculty Office of the Chinese Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Chinese Ministry of Education, Haro Nunez Moya, Vice President of the University of Costa Rica, and Roberto Lafontaine, Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Center of the Chinese and Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Jiang Shuqing, a publicly dispatched teacher from the Confucius Institute at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon in Mexico, and Larissa, a foreign staff member, attended this seminar and gave a keynote report on behalf of the Confucius Institute.

Vice President Nunez pointed out in his speech that Chinese is the most spoken language in the world and is increasingly important in international academic and professional fields. Chinese education has become a strategic tool to enhance global understanding and cultivate intercultural abilities in the 21st century.

Director Ding Xiangru expressed warm congratulations on the convening of this seminar on behalf of the Sino-Latin America Exchange and Cooperation Center. She pointed out that Latin America is China’s “bosom friend across the sea” and an important partner of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative; in recent years, with the deepening of exchanges between China and Latin America in the fields of economy, science and technology, humanities and other fields, the demand for learning Chinese in the region has increased exponentially. The Confucius Institute at the University of Costa Rica has played an important demonstration and leading role in Chinese language education and bilateral cultural exchanges between China and Costa Rica. She hopes that this seminar will become a new starting point for China-Latin America language and cultural exchanges, jointly write a new chapter of China-Latin America cultural exchanges, and contribute more strength and warmth to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Jiang Shuqing, a publicly-sponsored teacher at the Confucius Institute at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in Mexico, conducted research and comparison of cases in 12 countries and made a report titled "Professional Development and Training of International Chinese Teachers: International Practice and Enlightenment to Mexico". Larissa, a foreign staff member, shared "The Voice of Chinese Women in Mexico: Teaching, Reading and Cross-Cultural Comparison at the Confucius Institute at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in Mexico."

This seminar brought together experts, scholars and front-line teachers from many Latin American countries to conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions around Chinese education and Chinese culture. It provided a platform for exchanges and cooperation for Chinese educators in Latin America, further promoted the popularization and development of Chinese education in Latin America, promoted cultural exchanges and understanding between China and Latin America, and made a positive contribution to building a closer China-Latin America education cooperation network.
