May 17th at 7:30 pm. The Western Association and students from the Lijiang area of Shangri-La, Yunnan, showed the wonderful style of Shangri-La at the Fifth Teaching University. They also brought a free tour to Shangri-La. This project is funded by the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Government. In order to allow more college students to experience the dreamy and charming scenery of Shangri-La, the 6-day tour of Shangri-La is initially scheduled for this summer vacation. They will select two lucky ones from the students present today through a written test to participate in this project.
At today's meeting, students from the Western Association introduced the general situation of Shangri-La to everyone, showed a wonderful 40-minute Shangri-La documentary, and then invited the audience to dance with the girls from Yunnan. Everyone was intoxicated in the Tibetan style atmosphere and had a great time.
Diqing, Tibetan means "a place of good fortune and good fortune". According to the interpretation of English, Tibetan and Chinese lyrics, Diqing is another name for Shangri-La.
Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is located in northwest Yunnan, at the junction of the three provinces (regions) of Yunnan, Tibet, and Sichuan, on the middle and upper reaches of the Jinsha River and Lancang River. There are 12 counties in the adjacent Tibetan areas. Historically, Diqing was the only way through the "Ancient Tea Horse Road" and an important material transfer station on the Southwest "Silk Road".
There are nine ethnic minorities in Diqing with a population of more than 1,000, including the Tibetan, Lisu, Naxi, Han, Bai, Hui, Yi, Miao and Pumi. There are also 16 ethnic groups such as Dulong and Dai.
The natural geographical characteristics of Diqing can be summarized as "three mountain gorges, two rivers and one dam". The "Three Mountains" are the Nushan Mountains, the Yunling Mountains, and the Gongga Mountains, running in parallel from the north to the south. Meili Snow Mountain, Baimang Snow Mountain, and Haba Snow Mountain stand on top of the peaks. The "Two Rivers" are the Jinsha River and the Lancang River. They flow within Diqing for 430 kilometers and 320 kilometers respectively, and their drainage areas account for 70% and 30% of the prefecture's land area respectively. "One Dam" refers to the large and small Zhongdian dams, with a total area of more than 400,000 acres.
Diqing has a long history. Many stone tool sites have been found in the territory, and the Gordon Neolithic site alone proves that ancestors began development activities in the Diqing area about six to a thousand years ago. By the Warring States Period, nomadic peoples such as the Di and Qiang had become the masters here and agricultural production had begun. Since ancient times, Diqing has been a corridor and passage for Tibetans and other ethnic groups to communicate from north to south and for east to west to blend. It is also a battleground for military strategists:
