Host: China has launched various measures to strengthen supply and industrial chains, including encouraging technological innovation among enterprises. What technological advances have promoted the development of China's logistics industry?
Yang Hangjun: First of all, GPS and Beidou navigation equipment can realize real-time tracking during the transportation of goods, and can immediately deal with problems that arise during transportation. Second, AI-driven robots and automation systems simplify processes such as sorting, packaging, warehousing and inventory management, reducing labor costs and reducing human errors. Third, big data analysis helps determine the best transportation routes to reduce energy consumption and delivery time. Big data also helps logistics companies better understand consumer behavior to provide more personalized services and improve customer satisfaction. Fourth, autonomous delivery vehicles and drones are currently being tested and deployed for last-mile delivery to shorten delivery times. These emerging technologies have promoted the high-quality development of our logistics industry.
Moderator: In the first half of 2024, China’s e-commerce industry will see strong growth. What impact will China’s growing e-commerce demand have on the logistics industry?
Yang Hangjun: The rapid development of China’s e-commerce industry is having a profound impact on the logistics industry, and it also brings opportunities and challenges. First, e-commerce transaction volume has increased dramatically, driven by large e-commerce platforms such as Taobao, JD.com, and Pinduoduo, resulting in a significant increase in the number of packages that logistics companies must handle every day. This surge requires logistics companies to scale operations, invest more in infrastructure, and adopt emerging technologies such as robotics and artificial intelligence to effectively manage the huge demand. Secondly, consumers have increasing expectations for same-day or next-day delivery, which puts pressure on logistics service providers to shorten delivery times. To speed up deliveries, logistics companies are building smaller but well-located distribution centers close to major urban areas to improve response times. In remote rural and inaccessible areas, logistics service providers are working with local delivery companies to ensure coverage and shorten delivery times. Third, “last mile” delivery involves getting products from distribution centers to consumers, which is made more complex by the geographical diversity of consumers, from densely populated urban areas to remote rural areas. Especially in areas with complex terrain or slow traditional delivery methods, logistics companies are trying to use drones and autonomous vehicles for delivery to improve delivery efficiency.
