In late September 2020, 32 new teachers went to four practice sites in Qingdao, Shandong, Shenzhen, Guandong, Haikou, Hainan, and Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, kicking off their practice of education, teaching, subject research, and think tank construction. Walking on the streets of Qingdao, sometimes going uphill and sometimes downhill, I feel a sense of familiarity and intimacy, as if I have returned to my hometown. But unlike my hometown, Qingdao is a coastal city with the leisure and comfort of a coastal city. In addition, Qingdao was once a German colony. Germany developed Qingdao in accordance with Western urban planning ideas. As a result, Qingdao's existing urban layout and architectural style are different from traditional Chinese architecture and have very obvious characteristics of Western cities. The institute's complete facilities and the city's unique scenery also inspire our passion for work at the Qingdao Institute.

2. Academic integration

The event was originally planned to be open to people from all walks of life in Qingdao City, but due to the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, the event was only open to employees of the institute. My research work was assigned to the second lecture of the doctoral forum, and the title of the lecture was“Research on text knowledge discovery based on entity relationship”. Focusing on text knowledge discovery, I focused on my research work on entity relationship triple extraction in short and long texts. After the lecture, the teachers present raised questions from different perspectives, which provided new ideas for my research work.

3. Social Services

While working at Qingdao Research Institute, we can not only concentrate on asking questions and delve into academic studies, but also conduct field research and participate in social service work. During this month, we communicated with Qingdao Shibei District Big Data Development Administration, Qingdao Non-performing Assets Disposal Association and other units. Among them, the exchanges with the Shibei District Big Data Development Administration are particularly close. During the exchange with the Shibei District Big Data Development Administration, I found that the unit’s goal is to use big data to serve grassroots governance and provide scientific and technological support for industrial development, social governance, party building leadership, etc. Since my research direction is data mining, which is highly related to big data, when I saw the Shibei District Big Data Development Administration applying big data technology to grassroots governance, I felt that it was very meaningful to combine my research field with practical social problems. As university teachers, we must not only conduct high-level academic research, but also strengthen the connection between academic research and social services, and apply research to real life to better leverage the important value of universities in social services.
