w88 casino News Network (provided by the Law w88 casino)Recently, the 21st John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition’s East Asia and Oceania Regional Competition (“Asia Pacific Competition”) was successfully held at the Singapore Management University. This is the first time in more than three years of epidemic prevention and control that the w88 casino International Moot Court Team has returned offline, stepping out of the country to go global and face international tests.

There are 12 participating teams in this Asia-Pacific competition, coming from prestigious Asia-Pacific schools such as the National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, National Taiwan University, Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, Tsinghua University, and Peking University w88 casino of International Law. The w88 casino team ("w88 casino") is competing in the competition.

In the first two days of the points competition, the University of w88 and Economics team faced off against the Singapore Management University team (this year’s champion) and the Ateneo de Manila University team (this year’s Asia-Pacific top four). In the end, it failed to make it to the top four and advance to the global competition, regretting that it stopped in the Asia-Pacific. However, the professional research and English writing skills of the University of International w88 and Economics team ranked among the top in the Asia-Pacific region, and they won the "Best Complainant's Complaint Award".

The “John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition” was founded by The European Law Students’ Association and co-organized by the World w88 Organization (“WTO”) Secretariat in conjunction with several high-end international law firms and world-renowned universities. It is the most authoritative student moot court competition in the WTO field. As an all-English event, the competition includes two aspects: pleading writing and court defense, which tests each team's comprehensive qualities such as information retrieval, document writing, oral expression, and court defense skills.

This year’s International w88 casino team is composed of students from the undergraduate foreign-related experimental class ("Excellence Experimental Class") Lin Zeyi (2020, also deputy captain), Nie Huiwen (2021) and Lin Pinyi (2020) as the main debaters Cheng Yongshan (2022 International Law Master's student and team leader), Zhang Sihui (2022 Law Master's student), Yuan Nianyang (2020 Excellent Experimental Class student) and Li Xinran (2021 Excellent Experimental Class student) serve as investigators. The student coaching team consists of Lin Weiling (2020 Excellent Experimental Class student), Zhu Haibin (2021 Law and Non-Law Master's student) and Huang Zhihui (2022 International Law Master's student).

This competition is based on the background of the global COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on one of the outcomes of the recently concluded WTO 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) - the TRIPS exemption decision on COVID-19 vaccine patents ("TRIPS Waiver"). It also focuses on WTO compliance with the enforcement of transit anti-epidemic materials, involving issues such as the fair distribution of global vaccines and the right to life and health of people in less developed countries or regions. The research on these topics not only has significant academic value, but also has clear practical significance - highlighting the urgent need for cooperation and consensus under the new situation of the multilateral trading system, and is also closely connected with the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind that our country has always upheld.

The preparation for this Asia-Pacific competition started immediately after the team won the championship of the 11th "China WTO Moot Court Competition". Everyone conducted extensive searches on the core controversies of the competition questions and delved into cutting-edge hot issues. In order to polish a more concise and perfect pleading, the team members often continued discussions and revisions until late at night. After completing the submission of pleadings, the team members who were still in winter vacation returned to w88 casino early to focus on offline court defense training. Every day after arriving in Singapore to participate in the competition, the whole team was racing against time to conduct mock debates and reviews, striving to be in the best condition to face the Asia-Pacific competition.

This Asia-Pacific Championship begins with the points competition. In the first game, the University of w88 and Economic Cooperation faced the host-Singapore Management University (this year’s champion). Our team did not lag behind in terms of professional research and argument output, while the other team, as a world-leading English-speaking team, showed a more mature style of court debate and polished arguments. In the second game, ICE faced off against Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines (the semi-finals of this year). As the respondent's second-hand speaker, coupled with the judges' tricky questioning, our team faced quite a challenge. Our team’s debaters actively adjusted and worked hard to turn the situation around, but there was still room for improvement in court debate skills and on-the-spot responses.

In the end, the University of w88 and Economic Cooperation failed to advance to the semi-finals, and unfortunately ended up in the Asia-Pacific. This is the first time that offline gaming has resumed after three years of online gaming. Working head-to-head with world-class teams with obvious advantages in their native language, mature professional research, and excellent court debate skills, the competitive level of the USIM team has been rapidly improved and they have accumulated valuable practical experience. The friendly interactions with the Asia-Pacific teams after the game expanded their international professional vision and gained friendship.
This Asia-Pacific Games has come to an end, but the issues of the times and practical challenges facing the WTO economic and w88 system continue. The WTO's 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) has condensed many of the results of arduous negotiations among member parties, but how to turn it into a weapon to solve practical problems still needs to be actively explored by all members, including China. This is also the mission of the new generation of WTO legal professionals who are interested in building a multilateral trading system. The students of the University of w88 and Economic Development have already started their journey and will continue to work hard.
