This lecture was delivered by Mr. Zhao Xiaohai, General Manager of Peking University Yinghua Technology Co., Ltd. and Deputy Director of Peking University Legal Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Associate Professor Kong Xiangwen, Assistant Professor Xu Meiling, and Assistant Professor Li Yiyi of the Law w88 casino served as the speakers. Bao Lu, professor of the w88 casino of Law, Jean Monnet Chair Professor of European Union, and director of the Institute of Comparative and European Law of w88 casino, hosted this lecture. More than a hundred teachers and students from the Law w88 casino listened to this cutting-edge academic lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Bao Lu first expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to Mr. Zhao Xiaohai for taking the time to come, and introduced his outstanding achievements in the field of legal technology. As a leader in China's legal technology industry, Mr. Zhao Xiaohai founded China's first legal website "Peking University Legal Information Network" and led the Peking University Magic Team to continue to lead in the research and development of legal data and artificial intelligence products. Professor Bao Lu mentioned that the current legal education has entered the era of data and intelligence, and the Peking University Magic Platform has provided important support for legal research and legal practice. He encouraged students to gain an in-depth understanding of the application of AI technology in the legal field through this lecture and master the necessary skills for lawyers in the new era.

Mr. Zhao Xiaohai started with an interactive question. He asked several professors whether they could tell whether student assignments were completed with AI assistance, thus eliciting thoughts on the phenomenon that AI technology has deeply penetrated into the field of legal education. He pointed out that AI large models have shown strong application potential in the legal industry, covering multiple scenarios such as legal issue retrieval, legal document writing and even the generation of legislative drafts, which have significantly improved research efficiency, and are vividly explained with on-site operations: In terms of legal retrieval, the system can automatically match relevant laws, judicial interpretations and typical cases based on user queries, greatly improving the efficiency of legal retrieval work; in terms of legislative assistance, the system can review drafts and assess social impacts, shortening the legislative research cycle.
At the same time, Mr. Zhao emphasized that AI is only a tool and cannot completely replace legal professionals. Its value lies in its deep integration with legal research and its empowerment. Just as medical instruments and various examination technologies are advanced, they are inseparable from the professional judgment of the attending doctor. The value of legal AI depends more on the professional quality of the user. Currently, the development of large AI models is changing with each passing day, and the scope of data, application scenarios, and business chains are constantly expanding. In this context, legal professionals should proactively adapt to and make good use of AI technology in order to gain an advantage in future competition. He expressed hope for the students: First of all, they must have a solid legal foundation, and they must also have the ability to control AI technology and keep pace with the times.

In addition, Mr. Zhao further analyzed the similarities and differences between China and the EU in the field of AI legal rule. The EU takes the Artificial Intelligence Act as its core and focuses on risk classification and ethical norms; China places more emphasis on the balance between technological development and legal protection. He pointed out that there are certain differences in AI governance between China and Europe, but there is broad room for future cooperation, especially in aspects such as data sharing and the formulation of ethical standards.

In the discussion session, Associate Professor Kong Xiangwen and Assistant Professor Xu Meiling also expressed their views on how legal education should respond to the AI wave. In his speech, Teacher Kong mentioned that the impact of AI on legal education and academic research is unavoidable. He believes that educators should guide students to use AI tools rationally, not only to give full play to their efficiency advantages, but also to avoid over-reliance to ensure teaching effectiveness and the cultivation of students' independent thinking abilities. Teacher Xu summarized the lecture content of Mr. Zhao Xiaohai and shared his experience of using AI assistance in teaching and research. She pointed out that although AI can improve efficiency, the core ability of legal professionals’ critical thinking still needs to be continuously strengthened through practice. Assistant Professor Li Yiyi shared with the students the scenario of AI intervention in legal practice through the analysis of a case.
Subsequently, the students participating in the lecture had in-depth exchanges with Mr. Zhao Xiaohai on issues such as the collaboration between legal scholars and technical teams in the development of large AI models, and the potential risks of AI-assisted research. Mr. Zhao patiently answered questions one by one and encouraged students to actively participate in the exploration and practice in the field of legal technology.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Bao Lu once again thanked Mr. Zhao Xiaohai for his wonderful sharing and all the professors for their in-depth discussions and sharing. He said that the rapid development of AI technology has brought opportunities and challenges to legal research and education. Lawyers should embrace changes with an open mind while adhering to the spirit of the rule of law and the academic bottom line. He hopes that students will be both embracers of new technologies and guardians of the spirit of the rule of law. This lecture not only opened up the students' horizons for legal study and research, but also provided important inspiration for promoting China-EU dialogue on artificial intelligence and rule of law and cultivating legal talents in the new era in the context of the deep integration of artificial intelligence and rule of law construction. This lecture series of the EU Jean Monnet Chair Professorship Program came to a successful conclusion with warm applause.
