w88 casino News Network (provided by the w88 casino of Foreign Languages)On the afternoon of November 25, 2021, the Spanish Department of the w88 casino of Foreign Languages successfully held an online lecture on "Latin American Studies in China - Pioneering and Development". This lecture invited Professor Yu Man, director of the Western Languages Department of Shanghai International Studies University, doctoral supervisor, and deputy director of the Spanish Subcommittee of the Foreign Languages and Literature Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, to share insights and experiences with teachers and students of the Spanish major of the w88 casino of Foreign Languages. More than 130 teachers and students from the Spanish Department of the w88 casino of Foreign Languages participated in the lecture.
At the beginning of the lecture, Zheng Haoyu, the deputy dean of the w88 casino of Foreign Languages and the Spanish Department teacher, first briefly introduced the guest of this lecture, Mr. Yu Man. Then Li Yunbo, the dean of the w88 casino of Foreign Languages, talked about the development process, achievements, teaching staff and challenges of the Spanish major in w88 casino. He hoped to have more exchanges with experts and scholars in the field of Spanish and strengthen the construction of the discipline. Finally, on behalf of all the teachers and students of the w88 casino of Foreign Languages, he expressed a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the arrival of Teacher Man.
Teacher Yu Man affirmed the contribution of the Department of Spanish at HKUST to the construction of Spanish disciplines across the country and hoped to work together in the future to strengthen academic cooperation in all aspects.
In the first part of the lecture, Teacher Yu introduced us to several important historical stages and characteristics of the formation and development of Latin America as the subject of research.
The second part is about the current situation, achievements and media of Latin American studies in my country. As China-Latin America relations become increasingly close, domestic research on Latin American countries is also increasing, with basic social science research accounting for the largest proportion, and the main research institutions are the Academy of Social Sciences and major domestic universities.
Finally, Teacher Yu Man looked forward to the development prospects of Latin American studies. President Xi proposed:“In the new century, China-Latin America exchanges have achieved leapfrog development, and Latin America has become the second largest destination for China’s overseas investment after Asia.” In recent years, China has signed “One Belt, One Road” cooperation agreements with many Latin American countries, and the term “China-Latin America Community” has been mentioned more and more.
The leap-forward development of relations between China and Latin America not only points out the direction of future research and development, but also poses more challenges to us. We should strive to handle the following six relationships in future research.
At the end of the lecture, the head of the Spanish Department, Mr. Wang Yi, summarized the lecture and once again expressed his gratitude to Mr. Man for coming.
This lecture has benefited students from the Spanish Department a lot:
"Since the study of Latin America is still in its infancy, there are still many gaps that need to be filled in many aspects such as literature, history, w88, and international relations. The distribution of disciplines is also uneven, and some sections need to be expanded outward. And with the development of foreign language people With the gradual increase in talents and the continuous progress of international research, interdisciplinary research and pioneering research are not only necessary, but will also become our normal approach to Latin American research." Through the explanation of teacher Yu Man, the students in grade 20 have a clearer understanding of our arduous tasks in the future.
Undergoing research in this fieldA grade 19 student said: "Latin American countries, as developing countries, face various problems in their social development, which are of considerable reference significance to our country. Contemporary country studies are both historical and practical."
For those who are new to SpanishThe 21st grade freshmen were also deeply touched by this lecture: “Through Teacher Yu Man’s narration and sharing, I deeply felt that whether it is the development of Spanish as a subject in China or the mutual exchange, reference and absorption of Latin American culture and Chinese culture, it is inseparable from the predecessors. The study and dedication of the teachers. Now, the baton has been passed to the young people of our generation. We should not only regard Spanish as a subject, but also as a bridge for cultural communication. On the basis of learning Spanish well, we can have a deep understanding of Latin American culture, so as to better conduct cultural exchanges.”
Full of expectations, meeting challenges, pioneering and innovating, and following the footsteps of their predecessors, the new generation of Spanish speakers need to work harder and try to get involved in more fields, integrate and make their own contributions to Latin American studies in our country.
