Some insights on the road to PhD study - how to carry out academic research and plan for doctoral life

Associate Professor Zhang Yongjie of the Emergency Management Research Institute of the Central Party w88 casino (National w88 casino of Administration) gave an academic lecture sharing and exchange on the topic of "Some thoughts on academic life planning during the doctoral period - and how to do a good case study". The lecture was hosted by Professor Lu Weixia, deputy dean of the w88 casino of Government, and more than 20 doctoral students from the w88 casino participated in the event.

First of all, teacher Zhang Yongjie used his own doctoral experience as an introduction to help students analyze the developmental confusion, task confusion and psychological confusion that they may encounter in their doctoral career, and gave possible coping strategies. Next, Teacher Zhang gave detailed lectures focusing on three aspects: "About asking questions", "About writing" and "About case studies" to provide reference for the academic life of doctoral students.

Regarding "asking questions" and "writing", Teacher Zhang said that as an academic newcomer, you can start writing short papers from "research field" or "theory". However, the prerequisite for writing is to have a good research question. Teacher Zhang encourages everyone to raise tense research questions (such as cultivating differential questioning and comparative questioning thinking). In the writing process, Teacher Zhang suggested that everyone use the "fixed point rule" to read literature and conduct research. In the process, they should not only have practical concerns, but also take into account theoretical concerns and method concerns. At the doctoral level, doctoral students can establish their own "material library", "case library", "document library" and "database" as a personal version of Sikuquanshu. Teacher Zhang also encourages everyone to participate in more academic conferences and find their own academic community. Regarding case studies, Teacher Zhang focused on the case studies of Eisenhardt and Robert Yin, focusing on the types of case studies, research paradigms and other contents. He encouraged everyone to go deep into the field, be good at conceptualizing field data, and encourage students to cultivate variable thinking.

Finally, Teacher Zhang answered the questions raised by the students one by one and encouraged everyone to write about self-subjectivity based on growth during the doctoral stage.
