Case|AI leads the reform of teaching evaluation, and wisdom creates a new chapter in management quality

[Abstract] With the advancement of intelligent technology and the arrival of the digital age, artificial intelligence is becoming an important engine to promote the high-quality development of education. As an important part of the education ecosystem, supervision also needs continuous innovation to adapt to the needs of the times. Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology uses digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data to build a "two-end integration" intelligent supervision center for classroom teaching. It integrates intelligent functions such as knowledge graphs and classroom behavior analysis to realize supervision of teaching and supervision of learning, providing strong support for improving teaching quality and promoting teaching innovation.

In the context of the digital transformation of education, the integration of digital technology and the teaching process is increasingly deepening, which also provides important opportunities for comprehensively deepening the reform of educational evaluation. The traditional supervision model has many problems and limitations when meeting the educational challenges of the new era. Therefore, how to explore and build a new supervision model in the intelligent era through AI technology has become an important issue in the current education field. In 2020, the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the "Opinions on Deepening the Reform of Education Supervision Systems and Mechanisms in the New Era", requiring "gradually forming an intelligent supervision system supported by modern digital technology and big data, and improving the informatization and scientific level of education supervision."

Xidian University seizes the development opportunities of educational digitalization strategic actions and continues to promote the transformation of educational concepts, system reshaping, resource reconstruction, model innovation, and process reengineering. By using big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies to empower the supervision work of colleges and universities, an intelligent supervision center for classroom teaching (hereinafter referred to as the "supervision center") will be built to improve management efficiency, achieve comprehensive, accurate, and real-time monitoring and evaluation of the teaching process, help the w88 casino build an "artificial intelligence + education" benchmark university, and promote digital transformation and intelligent upgrading in the education field.

1. Limitations of the traditional supervision model

Teaching supervision, as one of the important means to ensure the quality of education and teaching, plays a pivotal role in the education system. However, with the continuous development and changes in the field of education, especially in the face of the new situation of current educational development, the traditional supervision model has gradually revealed its limitations, especially in terms of lecture methods, data collection and analysis, and evaluation feedback.

(1) Supervision efficiency is low

The traditional supervision model mainly adopts the method of entering the classroom to listen to classes. Supervision experts need to go to each classroom in person to inspect the teaching behavior of teachers and the learning status of students. As the scale of education continues to expand, the number of classrooms in schools and the distance between classrooms are also increasing. Supervisors need to go to different classrooms at different times, which takes a lot of time, is inefficient, and needs to bear a larger workload of listening to classes.

(2) Separate online and offline supervision

The traditional supervision model mainly focuses on the teaching situation of offline physical classes, and lacks effective supervision methods for online courses. Frequent visits by supervisors to classrooms may also damage the original teaching atmosphere, affect teachers' teaching status and students' concentration in lectures, and interfere with normal teaching order. With the rise of online education, the problem of separated supervision of online and offline courses has become increasingly prominent, making it difficult to unify standards and norms for supervision work, increasing the difficulty and complexity of supervision.

(3) Information statistics delay

Delay in information statistics is also another problem existing in the traditional supervision model. After listening to the class, the supervisor needs to organize and analyze the collected information to form an evaluation report on the teacher's teaching quality. However, this process often takes a lot of time, especially when multiple classrooms and a large number of students are involved. The statistics and organization of information are even more cumbersome and time-consuming. This not only affects the efficiency of supervision work, but also easily causes omissions or errors in information.

(4) Insufficient data collection and analysis

In the traditional supervision model, teaching-related data needs to be summarized using different platforms, and the process is cumbersome. Information may not be shared or interoperable between departments. Due to non-standard data collection methods and the diversity of data sources, the quality of collected data is uneven, and the collection process relies heavily on manual labor, which may have errors or deviations, making it difficult to collect teaching data comprehensively and accurately. In addition, the traditional supervision model often lacks efficient, digital, and visual big data supervision and evaluation analysis, and cannot fully understand the entire process of classroom teaching. It is difficult to conduct in-depth analysis and mining of teaching data and promptly discover problems in teaching.

(5) Long feedback cycle

After discovering problems in the traditional supervision model, you often need to go through a cumbersome and time-consuming feedback process. This process usually involves multiple levels and departments for step-by-step reporting. This process not only requires a lot of manpower, material resources and time, but also because there are many levels of information transmission, information distortion, delays or omissions are prone to occur, which not only increases the complexity and cost of the supervision work, but also affects the timely resolution of problems.

2. Intelligent technology helps to upgrade the supervision model

The rapid development of intelligent technology is profoundly affecting and changing the traditional teaching supervision model, promoting its upgrade in a more efficient, accurate and scientific direction. With the help of advanced artificial intelligence, big data analysis, cloud computing and other intelligent technologies, supervision can achieve all-round, multi-angle monitoring and evaluation of the teaching process, thereby more accurately grasping the quality of teaching and providing more targeted improvement suggestions.

(1) “Both-end integration” customization to meet hierarchical management needs

Based on the different needs of supervising teachers and managers, a "supervision end" and a "management end" are respectively built to realize multi-role and divided authority class patrols, and to track and analyze data from different angles.

1. Supervisory side

The supervision terminal focuses on providing supervision experts with a convenient and intelligent classroom inspection experience. The interface focuses on course information display, classroom situation analysis and inspection evaluation. By clearly displaying the course name, instructor, class time, location and other information, supervisors can quickly understand the current teaching status of the entire w88 casino, and then search for the classroom they want to inspect based on filtering conditions. By joining the course evaluation plan with one click, you can develop a personal evaluation plan list. (2) Online and offline multiple perspectives to achieve all-round class inspection supervision

(3) Integrate data from multiple sources to assist in comprehensive evaluation of supervision

In order to ensure that supervision can quickly and comprehensively obtain key information related to the course and more accurately understand the course objectives, teaching content and implementation status, the supervision center has conducted in-depth integration of data from multiple sources. By docking the course syllabus, the core information such as the teaching content, teaching objectives, and evaluation methods of the course are listed in detail. Supervisors can browse simultaneously while watching the teaching video, without having to flip through paper documents or wait for relevant personnel to provide them. This not only improves the efficiency of supervision work, but also helps supervisors examine the teaching quality of the course from a broader perspective. At the same time, the system is also connected to teachers' teaching files, scientific research files and award-winning files, comprehensively displaying teachers' teaching experience, scientific research contributions, honors, etc. in their careers, assisting supervisors to quickly understand teachers' relevant backgrounds, and providing teachers with targeted guidance and help. In addition, by docking the course knowledge map, the knowledge structure and the correlation between the knowledge points of the course are graphically displayed, so that supervisors can intuitively see the distribution, logical relationships, and key and difficult points of the course knowledge points, and conduct a more accurate assessment of the teacher's teaching methods and students' learning effects.

(4) Intelligent academic analysis, providing objective data reference

Based on self-developed algorithm resources by teachers and students in the w88 casino, image recognition, human posture model and other technologies are used to intelligently analyze teachers’ class status and students’ attendance rate, head-up rate, front row rate, classroom behavior, etc. By identifying teachers' facial expressions and interactions with students, it assists supervisors in assessing teachers' teaching status and concentration. By automatically counting students' arrival to class, their head-up rate and front-row rate in class, it can identify students' body postures and movements and determine whether they are listening carefully, taking notes or engaging in other bad behaviors. (5) Multi-dimensional empowerment of AI technology, collaborative efforts of “dual supervision”

Using speech recognition combined with natural language processing technology, it automatically slices the voice of the teacher's teaching video, translates and summarizes the classroom content, extracts key information, summarizes core vocabulary and generates hot word tags. It not only helps supervisors quickly locate the key positions of the video explanation, but also displays the teacher's teaching focus, classroom discussion hot spots, etc., to achieve comprehensive evaluation and management of teaching resources, improve the quality of teaching and the refinement of course management. At the same time, a number of AI technologies are used to build a "dual supervision" model that combines humans and machines. AI supervisors can monitor the teaching process in real time, conduct in-depth analysis of a large amount of teaching data, use intelligent algorithms to quantitatively evaluate the teaching process and quickly generate reports, and put forward suggestions for improvement based on data analysis; supervision experts, through manual inspections, listening to classes and evaluating classes, combined with their own rich educational experience and professional knowledge, can accurately judge the problems in teaching and provide teachers with more direct and specific guidance. Through the collaborative efforts of the two, each can give full play to its unique advantages and jointly safeguard the quality of teaching.

(6) Visual data cockpit, real-time monitoring of teaching quality

The supervision center has unified and integrated the teaching data of the whole w88 casino and used big data technology to conduct multi-dimensional statistics and analysis, providing comprehensive, real-time and accurate data support for teaching quality monitoring. 3. Innovation points of the case

Through the construction of a supervision center, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology has realized all-round online supervision and inspection and evaluation. Intelligent identification of classroom behaviors is realized through software algorithms, and data such as class attendance rate, front row rate, and student classroom behavior are automatically calculated. This effectively reduces the technical threshold and cost, and also greatly enriches the data dimensions that supervisors can obtain, allowing supervisors to intuitively understand the overall learning status of students in the classroom. At the same time, the AI-empowered "dual supervision" model is used to conduct data analysis from different angles and multiple dimensions to conduct a comprehensive analysis and summary of the teaching process, thereby improving the authenticity and objectivity of the evaluation results.

(3) Building a big data-driven management system

On the other hand, through big data analysis and algorithm models, automatic statistical analysis of teaching process data can help to evaluate the quality of education more scientifically and objectively, discover problems and shortcomings in teaching in a timely manner, and provide data support for teaching improvement. The supervision center can also flexibly adjust supervision strategies and standards to adapt to various complex and ever-changing educational scenarios, injecting new vitality into the reform of teaching evaluation and providing more scientific and efficient support for talent cultivation.

4. Conclusion

The development and application of the supervision center is an inevitable choice to realize the reform of teaching supervision in the context of education digitalization. In the fall semester of 2023, the Supervision Center of Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology was officially put into use. Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology has developed and constructed an integrated supervision system supported by modern artificial intelligence technology and big data to collect various data in the teaching process in real time and comprehensively, and to achieve normalized monitoring covering all aspects of classroom teaching, student learning behavior, learning outcomes and other dimensions. This provides the possibility for comprehensive control of the w88 casino's teaching quality and helps to evaluate the quality of education more scientifically and objectively. At the same time, through data-driven decision-making, we innovate the supervision and evaluation management model, use data analysis to promptly discover potential problems in teaching, and provide scientific basis for teaching improvement and strategy adjustment. The supervision center not only effectively improves the w88 casino's teaching management level, but also promotes the continuous improvement of teaching quality. It plays an important role in promoting the connotative development of colleges and universities with improving undergraduate teaching quality as the core, injects new vitality into the teaching evaluation reform, and provides more scientific and efficient support for talent cultivation.
